Arrival in Stockholm!

Aug 01, 2005 01:04

It is 1am on August 1st, but I'm going to write about the 30th and 31st. I am up late tonight, and was up late last night too. I was up last night until 3am. My host brother Emil and I were playing video games, Lord of the Rings Return of the King. We are trying to beat the game, and the only time we have to play is at night. The last 2 days that I have been here have been great! I love my family so much; they are everything I want in a host family! I get along with Emil, the oldest of the host kids, really well. And Anna and I get along really well too. Then there is Fredrik who is always on his computer, so it’s hard to get to know him when he is into his computer. But I will get to know him really well because I am probably going to be here for the whole year. From what I know of him though he is really cool.
I arrived on Friday night at 8pm. My host family was all there to meet me, and so was Adrian and his 2 of his 3 sons. We went to the car and started our 30 minutes car ride to my new home. When we got there I put my bags in my room and they showed me around. Then Adrian came over and we had something to eat. The first thing I had to eat was bread with peanut butter on it, not to different from what we have in Phoenix. Then we had some bread with butter and white Swedish cheese, it was really good! The cheese also comes in a cream cheese like way, but out of a bottle. It is really good on bagels or bread. The day after I arrived I woke up at 10am, it didn’t seem like I suffered jet lag at all. I had cereal that was just like granola but without the raisins in it. I also had this strawberry thing in it. It was a good concoction. Then during the day we did a lot of things. We went to Ikea to buy furniture for my host parent’s room. And I played Warhammer against Fredrik with the help of Emil, and of course I beat him. I had never played, and would have lost without Emil’s help. He is really good at it; I think I might play him tomorrow. I am also going with him and his friends up to the summer house for the weekend for a Warhammer tournament. I think we might air-soft up there too.
Today I woke up at 1pm, because I went to bed so late the night before. I am going to set an alarm, or Emil is going to wake me up. Emil and I went to pick up his friend Emma today after my late breakfast at 130. She is very nice, very good looking, and will probably be a good friend of mine throughout my exchange. She gave me her telephone number to call her sometime, so I think I will call her and keep in touch. I am also going to get the phone I was given a number so I may use it. I don’t think that I will use it that much. I will only call home really for rides, and maybe an occasional person here and there. My host mother, Carola, Emil and I are going to the mall tomorrow too. I need to buy a rain coat because it rains a lot here. I forgot a rain coat at home and it is a must need here.
It has rained the last 2 days off and on. It rained last night when we went downtown for the movie that we saw. Vi såg Sin City (We saw Sin City). It was pretty good, a little weird though. It was in black and white, but the blood was red. Har du sett den? (have you seen it?) Det var jätte gott? (It was really good). Those are some of the phrases that Emil and Emma taught me at the sandwich restaurant that we went to today for lunch. Well it is 130am and I am off to bed so I do not get up at 1pm tomorrow. It was such a waste of a day. Oh and we also went to see a man named Paul today. He learned Swedish 16 years ago when he moved here. He knew English before and was from northern England. It took him 6 years to actually learn it, but he was in a different situation that I am. Adrian also came over today and gave me a plug in for my laptop so that I can plug it into the wall! God natt, Sov gott! (Good night, sleep well)
