Over the weekend I picked up a book called dharma punx. I first heard about this book when the author did an interview with dicky on the now defunct mighty morning show. I started reading the book yesterday and now am half-way through it. It's the kind of book that takes some of my beliefs and challenges them and also follows a kid who is punk but struggling with religion and people doing drugs and the sort. From reading this book I've started to look into a new religion and i'm finding what I'm learning interesting at the very least. Here is a quote from a buddist monk by the name of: THICH NHAT HANH that I thought people might find interesting as I have.
For us to be happy, we need to water
the seed of mindfulness that is in us.
Mindfulness is the seed of enlightenment,
awareness, understanding, care,
compassion, liberation, transformation,
and healing. If we practice mindfulness,
we get in touch with the refreshing
and joyful aspects of life in us and
around us, the thing we are not able
to touch when we live in forgetfulness.
Mindfulness makes things like our eyes,
our heart, our-nontoothache, the
beautiful moon, and trees deeper and
more beautiful. If we touch these
wonderful things with mindfulness, they
will reveal their full splendor. When
we touch our pain with mindfulness, we
will begin to transform it.
