Clearly, I need to talk about tonight's How I Met Your Mother.

Is it weird that I sort-of...loved it? Like, a lot?

We all knew it wasn't going to be as easy as 'make out, do it, get back together.' It was totally painful to watch, but - it made SENSE.

Barney has actually grown up. He's like a full-on ADULT, you guys. It felt like to be true to any of the growth he'd done - he needed to tell Nora. And he did! (We were also thrown a bone with that Barney/Robin montage which was lovely.)

Robin...oh, my girl. You are so fucked up. And I love you for it. Robin has always been weird about relationships; that was one of her defining characteristics from the very beginning of the show. And despite the many not serious and few serious relationships we've seen...she's still really messed up about them and being in them. Not least because she thinks she's so messed up.

However, Barney is ready. Completely ready...and he kinda made sure she knew that. Then, on the other hand, you have Kevin. Who is the kind-of person she is supposed to want because he's sweet, he says he loves her; he is in no way frightening. He is totally safe.

Like, Barney clearly knows now - Robin is it for him. He's done. Robin though? She's finally realized how much she adores Barney, but the specter of the last time they tried is hanging over her. She also had Kevin telling her he loved her and everyone makes mistakes and just...he was kinda perfect in that moment.

Plus the aforementioned 'Barney scaring the shit out of her' thing.

So, it makes absolute sense why she would stay with Kevin.

And can we talk about the fact that Ted KNOWS? That is so awesome I can't even explain it. I am ridiculously excited for that little development.

So, yeah. I loved it.

I also have faith that the writers do know what they're doing - and will get us there safely.

That said -

I'm just going to lie down on the floor and stare at the ceiling for a while, okay?

It's like eating your vegetables - you know they're good for you and that you'll be happy you ate them in the long run, but it doesn't mean you have to LIKE it.

Come on, Hawaii 5-0, I'm counting on you to be your ridiculous self tonight!
