I feel like they invested all this time in Nora for a reason but that is yet to be revealed.
Right? Like, she was cool and everything, but I feel like it went from 'she's hot and Barney's trying to get her in bed' to 'he's in love with her!' Jigga-what? It feels like he's trying to prove something with her, but I don't know what it is.
I have loved the Robin stuff. She's always been my favorite and it's been lovely to see her grow, as well. Which dovetails nicely into your point about the show not being silly at its core. I feel like all of the characters have evolved (except, at times, poor Ted who wants to fall in love so so badly. Don't you feel like he's not going to meet the mother until he has totally given up? If it all goes like it seems like it might - he's going to have to watch Barney and Robin actually fall in love and really be together and you know that's going to make him want to just crawl into a hole. He'll be happy for them because Ted is a good person, but you know it's going to kill him by inches because all this time, he is the only one of them who was been actively looking for the love of his life - then he has to watch two of his best friends, two of his commitment-phobic, anti-relationship friends find what he wants? Um. So someone is writing that fic, right?)
Where was I? Yes! They have all evolved and it does deal with what you go through - job crap and relationship crap and your friends spawning and just..all of it.
All we can hope is that they don't do another left-at-the-altar thing again.

Yes, definitely. Why so much focus on her suddenly? Plus, she admitted right at the beginning that she wants things he doesn't want. She wants a relationship that he will never fit into.
Robin is my favourite character too! I see a lot of myself in her so I love it whenever she has some really fantastic character development.
Yes, YES. Ted wants that so badly. It would absolutely KILL him to see that happen for B&R. But man, would that ever be an amazing, ambitious story arc.

To keep on agreeing with each other loudly, WORD.
They have not given me any reason to be invested in their relationship and Barney being SO un-Barneylike for a girl I don't have any particular feelings toward, is jarring.
I'm hoping Barney (and the writers!) realize that he can still be Barney and be in a relationship. Same goes for Robin - if they do get them together and they turn into a suburban, 2.5 kids, white picket fence cliche, I will be hellaciously pissed.
I'm fervently hopiing that they do something with the three of them, about how their relationship would affect Ted. Do you remember the last scene of the first Kevin episode? With the three of them sitting around the bar and Ted's voiceover; it was something like 'It wasn't healthy and couldn't last, but it would take us a little longer to realize that.' So - fingers crossed!
I'm in the middle of three, count 'em THREE, Potter fics, but oh, man, I want to write this SO BADLY.
