I decided to give myself clearance
for clean slates today.
I've never been one for holding
a grudge with myself for very long.
I'm saving up my sense of humor for a later date.
Maybe once the weather turns warmer.
I saw my neighbor on TV yesterday.
He participated in a baseball game.
He sat near a overweight yellow teeshirt.
He phoned everyone he knew from foul-ball terrirory.
It was just after he phoned me,
that I decided to delete him from my contact list.
This gave me a great sense of relief.
Then I went ahead and deleted everyone from the list.
Everyone except Alton in Oneonta
with plans to be an X-Ray technician
and Mike in Kingston with the used car blues.
I sit now in a dim diner before work.
I gaze tiredly into the bent-corner menu.
& believe me when I write how I spoke clearly
when I told the waitress that "battered women
may look good on paper, but it doesn't make it right."
