It rains more often than not and sometimes Jongup struggles to remember a time when things were different. If he tries hard enough, he can remember more than one day of sun at a time, the way it felt to walk outside without a jacket and umbrella. He can remember when shoes didn't mean boots, when he could run just because he liked the feel of the sun on his skin. But the longer it rains, the fewer those sunny days get, the harder these memories are. But at the same time, there's a part of him that loves the sound of the rain - against the window, the pavement, the roof of the tiny rooftop flat he lives in.

Sure, there are days when he's tired of it. When all he wants is sun and warmth and to feel dry again. But he makes himself see the bright side of things, it's easier that way. At work, his coworkers love to dwell on the shitty parts of the weather. The fact that sometimes the streets floods, or that there's always construction, to make sure that the water doesn't disrupt the trains. Jongup used to join those discussions, pointing out the good things, but he soon learned no one wanted to hear them.

Instead, he makes lists. He sits at the lunch table, listening to his coworkers, and his own phone in his hand. He has lots of lists on his phone; they all have different titles and the date. Sometimes they're inspired by his coworkers and other times they're just things that come to him. When work is slow, and he's back at his cube, listening to the thunder and hoping the power doesn't go out again (it only happened twice, though it was amusing, it was also annoying), he opens a new Word document. He messes with the fonts until he finds something he likes and then starts typing.

Once a week, though he has many more incomplete lists on his flashdrive, he prints off one of his completed lists. He uses paper he bought at a stationary shop. It's fancy, pretty and sturdy. He gently seals it into one of his waterproof envelopes - everyone has hundreds of them now - puts it in his backpack. He makes sure to beat Youngjae home whenever he has a list ready. He'll leave work early, stop at the shops near their flat and gather ingredients for dinner. Then he'll set up the table in their kitchen with the list in the center.

Youngjae will get home an hour or so after Jongup and he'll read the list while Jongup serves them. Then, after they've finished eating and the dishes are cleaned and put away, they'll take the list to their bedroom. They'll run out of room on the walls, but neither of them care. When things get too depressing or they miss the sun too much, they'll both find themselves staring at Jongup's lists.

They wallpaper two walls in their bedroom, but they have a whole empty wall, free of the posters that use to hang there, waiting for more lists. After they hang up the list, they'll curl up in front of the TV. They'll watch dramas or the news and sometimes talk about how the world has changed since the rains began. But sometimes they won't do any of that. Sometimes they'll stand in front of the window that overlooks part of Seoul. They'll watch the rain fall in the darkness, lit up only by the lights of the city.

Jongup tries not to let the lack of sun, stars and moon, get to him. The lists help, but Youngjae helps even more. He'll turn in Youngjae's arms, away from the window, and wrap his arms around his boyfriend. They'll kiss with the sound of the rain falling in the background. Everything's wet and dark, but inside their flat, there's nothing but light and warmth.
