Youngjae knows he's getting sick. He can feel the tickle in the back of his throat, the scratchiness every time he swallows. His head feels like it's slowly filling with cotton. He hates being sick, but the worst is knowing that there's not a damn thing he can do to stop it. He calls his mum, even though he knows what he'll tell him. He notes down all the medications she gives him and then heads to the drug store near his flat.
He buys them and then stops at a small grocery. There he buys foods his mum says will help him, along with some carbonated drinks that ease the pain in his throat that seems to be growing harsher every time he breathes. By the time he makes it back to his flat, he's exhausted.
The first thing he does is email his boss. He'd said he'd like to come in late that day, but he sends another message, explaining that there's no way he'll be in today, much less the next couple of days. His boss understands, the cold and sore throat combination has been making it's rounds at work and it was only fair that Youngjae caught it. He'd lasted longer than most.
He curls up on the couch with a mug of tea after having taken some of the medications his mum suggested. He flicks the TV on and fiddles with his DVR until he finds something to watch. By the time he's finished the tea, he's halfway asleep. He stops the program, turns off the TV and falls asleep. Maybe he'll feel better when he wakes up.
