Oh happy day

“It’s the answer that led those who’ve been told for so long by so many to be cynical and fearful and doubtful about what we can achieve, to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.”

“This is our time to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.”

Yes! I don't even have words to describe the enormity, the impact, the meaning of this victory.

Last night, the waiting was painful, oh so painful. I was at work, multiple screens open, tracking results, keeping the Obama stream open. When it was finally TRUE, absolutely, totally, irreversibly true, then the tears and laughter and jumping for joy began.

Obama's words made my heart burst. The simplicity, the quiet strength, the obvious ability - at last. Beyond just the obvious joy and shock of knowing that we finally have a leader who is REAL, who speaks and thinks and plans in terms that are grounded in common sense and the reality of our everyday life - but who has the strength and moral certitude to inspire GOOD, to inspire change and pull the best out of people. And not just here, but in global terms. At last, a leader who has a *life* beyond the US, who has experience in and love for other cultures. AT LAST! No more politics of irrational fear and religious prejudice, no more senseless agression and war, no more preying on people by manipulating their self image and beliefs while plundering their lives and hopes. All of the cliches are true - it's a new day, a new life, a rebirth. Finally, I can feel pride and joy in this aspect of who I am, of where I live. No doubt the current situation is dire and difficult, but if anyone ever could find a way to make it through to the other side and guide us onwards, it's Obama.

Now, can we just keep this fervor alive and somehow channel it into keeping him safe? Keep up the fundraising, so we can pay for extra super fabulous security?

I am so proud. So thrilled. Overjoyed.
Laughing, crying, choking on the beauty and promise of it.
OBAMA! YES. WE. WILL.
