You know all those "Here's how to save $1000 by Christmas" blog posts that (unhelpfully, IMO*) suggested cutting expenses like eating out 5 days a week for lunch or shopping for discount airfares rather than paying full price?

I always find those lists so unhelpful, too. There's never anything on them that I haven't already been doing for years, (and of course I would never consider doing most of the things they tell you NOT to do, like the ridiculous gourmet cofee thing) so I find them sort of condescending and insulting... But then I see how mid-upper level business people spend their money, and how a lot of poor people are even worse (they don't have winter jackets, but they have the latest $400 cell phone) and I realize there is a target audience for these lists. It just isn't us. :-)

I don't always spend money wisely. Then again I also don't pay any attention to lists on the Internet.

I'm not sure tough economic times are solely to blame for Starbucks' decreased market share. There seems to be a growing consensus among people I know that Dunkin Donuts' coffee is better. Here in Indiana, we are salt-of-the-earth people and do not want some ridiculous triple mocha frappucino, "venti" size.
