The Grand, The Good, And The Weird

The Grand: I got all my grading done, grades submitted, and final papers returned. Done with teaching! Yay! (Now I just have to wait for the course evaluations.)

The Good: The House of Representatives has passed the repeal of DADT. On to the Senate, where the Good Guys have almost enough numbers to break a filibuster. So here's what I want. Ideally, for the Senate to pass DADT before the new crew gets sworn in. Failing that . . . I want the filibuster. A real, honest-to-God filibuster. I want the Republicans to stand there reading the phone book on the Senate floor for hours on end to an audience of C-SPAN cameras. I want to see, and I want the rest of the country to see, whether their hate is strong enough to do that.

The Weird: Topless male acrobats perform for the Pope (and a crowd of cheering nuns) at the Vatican. Really.

politics, school, holy bazolie
