I noticed with great joy that someone has uploaded most of John McEnery's three scenes from Romeo and Juliet to YouTube. It's not quite his complete performance -- the beginnings of the second two scenes are missing -- but there's almost twenty minutes' worth of material here. You can see almost all of the performance that revolutionized the way people thought about the character of Mercutio and his position in the play. And it's funny, too!
On the way to the Capulet party, Mercutio has a Moment. Bored teenagers find pompous nursemaids hugely entertaining. Why it's a really bad idea to put yourself between two fencers. Enjoy! I know I did.
