Rush for Polymer $2 notes

Today's ST article :

Banks are swamped by requests for the new polymer $2. $2 note is commonly use for Chinese New Year red packet.

A certain lady was interviewed by the press and quoted to say that she would never use 'refurbished' notes because she will lose face in front of her relatives if she gives their children old but refurbished notes.

Her face is easily 'lost' indeed. Silly woman. Money is money, whether new or not. The value is not affected in any way. Those who complain just because the notes are not brand new can jolly well give the money back. Why should the giver be apologetic about it?

The person may have been misquoted by the press of course, but judging by the rush for new notes every year, I am sure it is highly possible that people feel obligated to give new notes or risk losing face.

Another tiresome, obligatory CNY practice.
