Booking Through Thursday

This week's questions were suggested by Kim.
  1. Do you have a favorite character(s)?
But of course! So there's Stephen Maturin, Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet, Mary Russell, Joshua Lawerence Chamberlain (though he's...ah... real, not fictional), Lord Peter Wimsey, Peregrin Took (yes, the book Pippin), Sherlock Holmes, Jon Snow...and lest we forget, Diana Villiers.

But, let's go with the one that isn't linked to one of my LJ fandoms though. How about Milady de Winter?
  2. What book/author is he/she/it from?
The Three Musketeers, by Alexandre Dumas pere of course.
  3. Why do you like this person--what is it about the way he/she was written that drew you to them?
It's not that I like her, really. You'd have to be slightly out of your mind to really 'like' Milady. She's manipulative, pratically predetory, and has a tendency to kill her close relatives. But as a female character in a sword-fighting world, she's got to be one of the most compelling in all of fiction. She is very very good at what she does - not a trait to be sought, persay, but one to regard with the admiration you look towards a devouring lion. An actress par excellence, she's suceeds at almost every task put before her - save for one. Cersei Lannister could probably use some lessons from her, heaven forbid. Do consider:
“Fortunately, she is far off,” said Porthos, “for I confess she would worry me if she were here.”
“She worries me in England as well as in France,” said Athos.
“She worries me everywhere,” said D’Artagnan.

Now, if you wanted to be a spy-seductress-adventuress, isn't that a great advertisement?
  4. Is there something more you would like the author to tell you about them? A lot of Milady's background is covered in the book (including somethings I wish I hadn't read when I was in 5th grade. Goodness!) I could only wish for a bit of information about her deep past - it's summerized, but with some tanlizing holes.
