I'd love to tell you how great The Simpsons movie was, but I only got to see half of it. I don't normally go to see movies on a Tuesday afternoon, but I wanted to see the movie and I really didn't have anything else to do. I probably only get 4 or 5 work calls a day (often less) where I use to get 50 or 60, so watching a movie for 2 hours is no big deal. As soon as the movie started, my phone started vibrating. I ignored the first call or two, but once it got to 6 missed calls I had to leave the theater to see what was going on. Only one call was sorta urgent. I go back and my phone starts blowing up again. Again I get concerned that something urgent is going on, but nothing really is. Repeat cycle one more time. I ended up missing 30 minutes of the movie. What I saw was good, so I look forward to it hitting HBO so I can see what I missed.

Poker in July was, in a word, outstanding. I made the move to NL400 half way through and was on fire from the first hand. I didn't intend to make the move for another month or two (I seriously questioned if I would ever play that level), but I saw some good tables and decided to sit. I had 6 or 7 winning days before I took a loss. The loss was a big $2600 and I thought variance was kicking in and I was coming back down to earth. The next day or two were slight winners and then I really went on a tear.

I'm limiting myself to 6 tables and being very strict with my table selection and my mental state. I can't get in 4K hands/day like I use to, it's now closer to 2500, but the results have been well worth it. I'm running nearly 8ptBB/100 over 26K hands. I've never experience that high of a win rate over that many hands at the lower levels. According to PokerEV I'm running a bit hot on my allins, but not more than a point. I don't feel like I'm running into monster hands as much as I did before, but I don't know if I'm running hot in that area. My aces seem to mostly hold up. My tptk doesnt seem to run into 2 pair much.

I'm really looking forward to this next month and see how I run. I plan on mixing in some NL600 and trying to open up my game. I'm still fairly taggish (19/15/3.3) and I'd like be one of those 26/22 lags. It's a tough transition but I'm doing it slowly. Even if my win rate is cut in half I'll still make 20K/month playing 60K hands which requires about 110 hours, not including studying time. WHich isn't to say I think mixing in lag will lower my win rate, but rather that my true win rate is 4ptBB.

I've been shopping coaches to help with the transition. I've found it's a bit tough finding what I'm looking for. I need a proven winner who plays a bit higher than me(but not too much higher, as the game changes too much) that plays lag and can help with the transition. I need someone dedicated to coaching and is a good teacher. Those guys are usually booked solid. We're not talking about $50/hour, more like 200-300/hour. The problem is these guys are making 400+/hour and don't need the coaching money.

I'm going through 3-bet.net right now and seeing who they can hook me up with. They have many of the top players as coaches, but I really don't know their style. I know that as soon as I establish a winning record at NL1000 I'm getting serious about being a coach. I can only play so much and having a nice base of 40 hours/month of coaching at $200/hour would be nice.

I had about $2100 in FPP value and I got my $3K for 300K VPP bonus for a monthly total of $23,600.

I find that number a bit shocking, even though there is a small unit of players making this and more playing the mid limits. My sample size is small, but I feel like I dominate my level. There are only three players that I feel out play me. Right now I solve the problem by refusing to let them sit on my left and I've spent significant time studying their play and coming up with counter strategy. The problem is they quickly counter my counter strategy, so then I'm forced to adjust again. I always feel like these guys have a better range on my hands than I have on theirs.
