HA. These guys have nothing on my dad and his sister.
My dad has been getting the same birthday card from his sister for as long as I can remember. If it's not 50 years, it must be close to it. And the funny thing is that the card has a squeaker in it, so every year (when I was growing up) he would open the card and give it just one quiet squeak (while we were all very quiet) so it wouldn't wear out. It started as a joke - my mom sent the card back to his sister without him knowing it so she could send it back. After a few years it became a tradition.
Oh, and it isn't being cheap, it is being thrifty. Something New Englanders are known for :-)
