I had some fun this morning reading random, interesting science new articles to wake up after a late night of studying...yes, I'm a geek. So, here are my interesting finds:
CT scans of extinct Marsupial Lion skeleton reveal the new king of the jungle made quick kills rather than suffocating prey Lupus-suppressing mechanism discovered to occur from a nonsense mutation of the gene, Coronin-1A gene, that causes the disease when disfunctional I find this particularly interesting since a nonsense mutation produces a protein that is misshapen and has lost its function. Apparently, the loss of function in the Coronin-1A protein messes with proper cytoskeleton formation --> the shape of cells is altered --> T cell production is interferred with --> and the immune response is altered. Very cool stuff.
