Peeking in after a busy month

I'll post more later--it's been so busy lately--but I want to quickly share some great news.

*The first dog was cloned. This opens up a bunch of great research on canine diseases and will be a great help in making our companion animals healthier and happier. I'm not much for the cloning a dead pet to help the owner grieve, but yeah that will probably happen too. A bit of an expensive way to grieve...especially since the clone is basically just a identical twin of the original dog, not the same dog--it will have a different personality and may even look different.

*Dave Garcia is retiring! This guy is a criminal (rape, kidnapping, drunk driving with outstanding warrants in other states) turned vice president of operations of the Texas
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (TX SPCA based in Dallas)...where he's still a criminal! He's been leading "raids" on private rescues, breeders, and citizens who care for sick/injured animals in an effort to generate more public donations. Everything I have seen suggests that these "animal cruety" cases are nothing more than a difference of opinion on how to raise animals and punishing those who are caring for newly-taken in sick/inured animals. There's also been alot of concern over the treatment that "rescued" animals have received from the TX SPCA--claims ranging from cruelty, lack of specialized care for special needs animals, low feeding, to unjust euthanizing of animals. Garcia's retirement is effective Aug 31st and hopefully this will be the last time this criminal is allowed near an animal, but please watch out for him to resurface in your state/city.

I've also been hearing more opposition to the horrible PAWS bill and the actions of animals terorists and support groups (PETA, ALF, HSUS, etc.). This makes me hopefully for the future. Maybe one day America will really be pet-friendly and truely free--free of terrorism in the name of ideals, free of discrimination, and free of hate.
