so with my free time i've been looking at grad schools for...bum bum bum...education.
that's right, folks. i think my destiny has pulled me towards it, i've an interest for it, and all in all i have ideals and want to spread the good word of poetry to the next generation. that's basically my entrance essay. good, huh? after all, i have lots of dreams -- who knows EXACTLY where they'll lead me, but it seems this is the path, afterall. i sound enthused bout it, huh? it's all part of the plan, really. i do have a plan. i'll get into it at another date and time.
anyways, from the looks of it, i have these three options which seem good to me:
Johns Hopkins -- obvi a good school, what's interesting is that it's not as expensive as i thought, only a whopping 15 grand. i mean, 15 grand is 15 grand, but considering it's private school status, that's a pretty good price. what's also nice is that it has practicum in montgomery county, which is nearish to DC. so i can work my way around that; there's also baltimore, but i think in the end i'll need a car if i go there...which won't be bad, just expensive what with gas prices an' all. but either way, sound interesting....and near DC! also, i saw some interesting classes -- urban realities and reforms, differential learning stuff, stuff bout race and gender's influence on learning, etc.
UMass -- i know what you might be thinking, UMass? don't judge people, it's a phenomenal school. anywho, to speak of that which is phenomenal, the outline cries toward a stress on diversity, cross-cultural learning, which is pretty important, especially if, in the end, i end up in an urban environment. the interesting thing is that they have their practicum set in springfield, at central high school, which'd be interesting and hard and exciting. price is always a good thing. the problem is, and on the other hand the good thing is, it's in amherst, which is nowhere near a big(ish) city. i mean, besides springfield. but yeah...like i said, i have a plan.
University of Illinois Chicago -- chicago. it's a place that's gotten my attention, both from friends, and from the fact that it's chicago. something bout it seems real interesting. a different kind of city, and something far far from DC. a different mind-set, it seems. anyway, the school peaks my interest, and the classes look pretty good. i'm gonn' have to look into it a little more, explore the different kinds of stresses, and what kinds of practicum opportunities it has to offer. but...chicago. i forget the cost, but that'll come in an edit, i'm sure.
so those are the three so far. if anyone's got some more heads up on the Ed. scene, you let me know, you know i'm always ready for a comment or five hundred.
