Weekend summary

The weekend always starts on Friday night. Last Friday I went to see my mate Jim and his new band play at the White Hart in Upminster (or to be more accurate: the middle of nowhere!)

It started well enough, a good mix of covers and the band's original material, but during the second half some of the locals got a bit rowdy. Jim was "a bit snarky" (some words were used that I won't type) on the mic and the temperature dropped by about 1,000 degrees as the children and women-folk left or moved to the back of the pub and the men-folk all stood up. I haven't been in a pub fight for a damn long time and didn't really like the idea of being in one again. The three or so trouble makers began to realise that they had probably bitten off more than they could chew (90% of the patrons of the pub were only there to see, and comprised of family and friends of, the band.) The barmaid, who was about 4'6" and weighed about as much as one of Jim's guitars, stormed in and told the trouble makers off... apologising to Jim for the trouble! The rest of the gig was charged and still a little frosty.

After that excitement the rest of the weekend was always going to pale a little into insignificance... wasn't it? Saturday I met up with Leon and his new girlfriend, Maria, for some karaoke in the Albert. It was a good night (no sign of a fight) with a couple of surprises...

Lisa the raver was back! She "did" a rendition of Phantom of the Opera which left me with tears in my eyes. The faces Karaoke Pete was pulling while he sang the lines "Sing my angel of music, sing" still has me chuckling at the memory. She also "did" some Kyle - but I'm not really a fan so it wasn't that painful. Pete sang "You can Leave Your Hat On" and she didn't strip - which is a mercy as she has put on a considerable amount of weight since she was last seen.

Tina (my sister's daughter's father's sister) made an appearance at the Albert... but didn't sing.

It was Kim's birthday so she made Pete accompany her on "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" which is Pete and my sisters song! This prompted a rage in Tina and text messages were sent! Still... not nearly like the drama of the previous night.

Sunday I was supposed to go see a battle of the bands in Romford with Naz, but she wasn't feeling too well so we didn't go. All in all I am kinda of glad as I'm not sure I could have coped with three nights out on the trot... I'm getting too old for that kind of thing. I had dinner at my parents' abode, watched a couple of slightly second rate sci-fi films which I recently picked up in a set for a couple of quid! Dad and I like our sci-fi second rate.

There was a deficiency of WoW related activities due in part to late starts and fun packed evenings... although I did manage to get a couple hours in on Saturday... but no significant progress was made.
