I have a 104/120 stars in Mario Galaxy...
In order to move on... I have to face the final Boss...
because once you beat the game, you get one star for winning, and then unlock the ability to get the last 15 stars... then the big secret is unlocked... I want to so bad
but I don't want the game to end.
Mario Galaxy is everything I've ever wanted in a 3D Mario Game... a review had stated that if Mario 64 = Super Mario Brothers, and Sunshine = Mario 2... then Galaxy is truly Mario 3... Mario 3 and Mario World are my two favorite Video Games... ever; hands down, Half Life 2 (and Episodes 1 and 2) is amazing and one of the greatest games ever made... but it is not my favorite... My heart rests with a pair of italian plumbers and thier overused story lines.
Super Mario Galaxy is no different. And though I feel like Mario Galaxy will not usurp the role of favorite Video Game; it is right behind them... and I haven't even beaten the game yet. Mario 3 and Mario World have one thing over Galaxy, and thats time; I've been able to meet Mario World since I was 8 or 9; I've known that game like the back of my hand.... and though Mario 3 I've known longer, I was not able to beat that one for a long time, for it is harder.
Also, Mario Three had the problem of not having a save option... which meant that, unless you were willing to put the time into it, you would miss a lot to get to the end of the game... it wasn't until All Stars that I was able to truly see how great the game was... and it wasn't until High School that I truly appreciated these two games.
And that's why usurping my favorite video games is hard; because my two favorites, who are tied for number 1, have too much sentimental value.
Mario 64; though I did not get an N64 until much later, I felt it lacked something at first... and it did; sure it did an AMAZING job at bringing the plumber to the Third Dimension; but I was actually upset that there were no mushrooms or fire flowers. Fire Flowers I could understand; I mean, it was easy in 2D, they either go right or left, but in 3D it's a different story, Worms 3D had a problem with it and lost it's charm. Thee Mushrooms... okay, you didn't want a small Mario and needing a Mushroom to get to full size... maybe have it increase the health meter?
Sure, we got the metal Mario, which was like a star plus lead weights; and we got invisibility and flight...
But I missed the starman, I missed the mushrooms, I missed the fire Flower. Despite all this though, Mario 64 is ana amazing game, and I love it; it is the start of the 3D Mario Series, and it was truly a great game.
Sunshine was a blacksheep, but it wasn't a bad game; Sunshine is a great platformer... what it lacks though, is diversity; the entire game is a beach setting; it feels small Delfino Plaza was smaller than Peaches Castle (the casle had the main room, an outside, a basement, a fountain, an upstairs, and an even higher upstairs), and all the levels were the same beachy atmosphere... you never felt you were anywhere epic; you were on a small island, and you knew it. Fludd was a great addition, and bringing back a ridable Yoshi was a nice touch, but the game had a feeling of being confined. Never-the-less, I loved Sunshine, it had those interesting Fludd-less Trippy levels and a coherent story... I still need to beat it though, maybe after Galaxy...
Galaxy is everything I've wanted in a 3D Mario, and more, it had a mushroom that doubles your health, (which is down to three instead of 6 or eight or whatever it was), it has the fire flower, granted it's only there for a short time; it has new items; all based on mushrooms and flowers; it has amazing platforming, it all feels natural, and I love it all so much. Everything is varied and beautiful; the central area is smaller than Delfino, but the levels themselves make this game few so large and expansive; only one level did i feel they got a little lazy, and even then I didn't care because it was still fun. The Boss Battles have been a blast; the first two times you fight Bowser are challenging, but fun... and best of all, are all the little throwbacks, music from older Mario games; enemies, random references... all so great, I mean, Bowser even has giant fucking airships... and theres even those screw things you had to jump on to make them go forward!
so yeah, this game is a definite reason to get a Wii if you don't have one... and if you do have one, get it.
I give it a 12/10 it's that great.
I even give it 120 Internets
