Well... I just finished the Prelude to Dune Trilogy; the three books written by Frank Herbert's Son Brian and another writer to give a background on characters from the first book.. they start from the time Leto Atreides was a boy to the point where Paul Atreides was born... roughly 21-22 years and ended about 15/16 years before the first book.
Though they were good stories, I felt they lacked the depth and challenging read that the first book and several of the sequels had. Dune was written in 1965 and is still considered the best Science Fiction book ever written.
But the prelude triolgy wasnt bad... I felt they tried to hard and a lot of what they wrote could be seen as attempts to create a dramatic story.. but overal it was just entertaining reads.
They ead fast... the first book took forever to get through, the language and words and everythign about it needed so much focus to understand every word... I now feel the need to get my copy back so I can reread it.
But I guess I can't blame Brian Herbert for keepign the story going and buildign a history; when i get some money I'm gonna get the legends of Dune trilogy; the three books that detail The Butlerian Jihad which is referenced so much in the original six books, adn the prelude trilogy, and apparantly needed to know for Hunters of Dune and Sandworms, which were written by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson our of the notes for Dune 7 which Frank enver finished.
Though I still feel his son is not nearly as creative as his father; and i'm unsure of how I feel about is trilogy that he plans on writing that will take place between Dune and Dune Messiah (The second book by Herbert).
I just feel he isnt as mature as his father.
But now i have renewed strength to get back to my story, which i plan on adding another act to.
