birthday birthday
hiho, i'm 29 today! i'm more pleased than anything else... mostly cuz i'd told myself to figure out certain things before my 30th birthday or else, and i've figured out most of them, and yay i'm going to grad skool in three months. so my twenties were slow in terms of my development, but i feel like things are shaping up. whoo! also mom is taking me to fancy restaurant on tuesday, which will rock cuz i likes fancy restaurants.
and T (nana_b) was here for three days (left this morning), which was really, really awesome, and was a great birthday present. we went to the beach! (kure beach, near wilmington.) it was cool. T had hush puppies for the first time. hush puppies are goddamn tasty (they're these corn meal / corn bread things, spiced in some way, deep fried... usually little balls or little lumpy stick-shaped things.) i spent an hour in the water, nice and warm water, floating up and down while these boys attempted to surf in the small small waves of the atlantic (hahahaha). i wanted to swim to the golden horn but the sea kept throwing me back. ran away from a jellyfish. didn't get burned. yeah, it was awesome. and also showed T all sorts of stuff in my hometown, the best burger and pizza places, had her try barbecue and brunswick stew, etc. yesterday we went to umstead park, this great big nature preserve/park, and saw deer, and baby snakes, and tree frogs, and lizards, and it was really beautiful, the green green deciduous forest with the shade and the coolness and the wonderful smell (i miss it so much when i'm not here), of damp pine needles and mulching leaves and bark and wood. yay.
also, i found out that june 18th, apart from being a fairly important war holiday (the anniversary of de gaulle's call to the french people, rousing them up to resist, in 39 or 40 i think), is also like national stoner's day. ha!
