I don't know why everyone wants everything to always be a competition. Face it: You probably weren't the first to draw that design, or read that book or hear that band. Your ideas probably aren't entirely original and nothing you do is better than any one else's nothings. Everything everyone does is usually different, and when it's not, it should be. People aren't always better than others, they're just different. And that's why everything everyone does has something really awesome about it, because it's supposed to be totally different. Besides sounding like something a first grade teacher would say to the kid with the worst art project in the class, this actually makes sense if you put your bogus sense of pride aside and think about it.
I want all of you to stop thinking you're the best artist, photographer,
painter, writer, athlete, anything, and just understand that you have
something different to offer and that that's all that matters.
