Character Name: Washu Habuki Character Journal: nursewashu Fandom: Tenchi Universe Canon Background and Personality: Washu is a scientific genius who was locked away on Earth after developing inventions, while attending the Universal Science Academy, which would be very destructive in the wrong hands. After several centuries of imprisonment, she was freed during a fight between Princess Ayeka and the space criminal Ryoko, at the Masaki Shrine.
Upon being freed, Washu opted to live with Tenchi, Ayeka, Ryoko, Sasami, and the others. She spends a lot of time in her lab, inventing things such as the MechaWashu. Most inventions, however, prove to be rather dangerous if improperly handled. While Washu does not set out to create weapons or destructive devices, her curiosity to see if she can make a thing tends to drive her a bit overboard at times.
Washu was instrumental in the final battle with Kagato, assisting Tenchi by disabling much of the Jurai space fleet. For her assistance in the matter, she was elected honorary president of the Universal Science Academy, after promising to use science for peace. She was kicked out a month later, when it was discovered one of her inventions could possibly destroy the entire universe. She returned to Earth, where she later assisted in the destruction of the class A-1 criminal Kain.
Curiosity is Washu's strongest skill, and greatest weakness. Washu possesses a child-like nature, seeing a universe full of interesting things that she wants to understand. She occasionally breaks through the boundaries of what most would consider acceptable to satiate her desire to know how something works, including people and their abilities. At times, she will isolate herself to concentrate, but other times she is very outgoing and friendly. Washu tends to come across as overly amicable when she wants something from someone.
In-game occupation and/or location: Dr. Washu Habuki is currently assigned to the Traveler Assistance Program of Tarqeq as chief researcher and director. As director, her job is to coordinate the various Visitor Escort Droids, Welcome Centers, and research assistants who monitor dimensional activity. As chief researcher, Washu's function is oversee academic research into dimensional physics. Additionally, she is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upgrade of equipment which maintains the entire TAP surveillance network. In her spare time, Washu has a personal lab where she creates inventions, and occasionally sells them.
Many segments of Washu's personnel file are either missing, or flagged as classified material by the Tarqeq Department of the Interior. What is known, is that Washu was a child prodigy. At a very young age, she showed a heightened skill in mathematics and applied sciences. Her adoptive parents enrolled her in many accelerated learning programs, sponsored by the Tarqeq government. By the age when most Tarqeq children were just learning calculus, Washu was studying advanced quantum theory in her free time. She was one of the youngest admitted to University of Tarqeq, and quickly completed a series of training modules. It was during her time at the University that she was brought into the Traveler Assistance Program, due to her affinity for problem solving and overall technical skill. Near the end of the file, it is noted that Washu is the "greatest scientific genius in the universe". This appears to have been added by a third-party source, though the culprit has yet to be apprehended.
Washu's interpersonal skills are not a strong point. While she is quite assertive, and at times, aggressive, she tends to keep to herself most of the time. She does not often leave the lab, aside from the occasional shopping trip or dinner with officials. Many see her a shy, yet extremely intelligent person who gladly shares information when asked. Those who become associated with one of her odd fascinations, however, find her to be brash and unpredictable. For the most part, she's a polite, cheerful, yet quirky, public employee of the Tarqeq government.
Washu's current work projects include finding a way to divert dimensional travelers directly to the Welcome Centers, and eliminate the need for the droid escorts. Increasing the response time, scanner sensitivity, and accuracy of the entire system are also concerned on which she is working on improvements. Current personal projects include a food synthesizer that can make milkshakes, a personal spacecraft, and a dimensional transport apparatus. While she finds it fascinating to meet travelers from other worlds, she has begun to think about using up her stash of vacation days and seeing some of these places personally.
The sun shone brightly in the warm summer sky, but that didn't matter at all to Washu. Tucked away in the research lab, the redhead scientist sat at a computer terminal with a pair of wire-rim glasses perched precariously at the tip of her nose. Trying her best to keep her heavy eyelids from closing, Washu focused on the screen saver which had just switched on. Small red crabs began to dance across the screen, one after another, happily opening and closing their little claws as they merrily scampered in a never-ending parade. The sleepy researcher slowly lost her battle with the sandman, and soon she had sunk into her seat, her head leaning back, while her glasses slid safely back along her nose.
Several hours passed before the terminal made a loud "bing" sound. It was just enough to rouse Washu. Slowly, she returned to the land of the living, her eyes attempting to focus on the screen. Before her were the new dimensional travel equations and simulation results. Washu sat up and adjusted her glasses, stifling a yawn as her still-groggy eyes did their best to interpret the information presented on the screen. It wasn't working.
"Wake up Washu! You're the greatest!" A voice echoed through the small, darkened lab.
"Wake up Washu! You're the best!" Another voice disturbed the silence.
"Meh," replied Washu.
Sleepily, the research scientist rubbed her eyes and stretched out her arms. By the time she'd finished, and her eyes began to focus once again, she could finally see the source of the cute voices. Upon the desk, at either side of the terminal, were two robotic dolls which looked remarkably like Washu, only smaller. Each had a large red letter upon it's forehead; one with the letter "A" and the other with the letter "B". Washu turned her attention back to the terminal screen and began to read over the results.
"Wow! The energy requirements were much lower than I predicted. This is very good!" She blurted out in response.
The two dolls began to cheer in unison. "Washu! Washu! Hooray for Washu!"

(This was just a little summation of things discussed in chat, along with some silliness and other ideas I had... thought I'd include it.)
The TAP organization intercepts incoming travelers, wanderers, and vagrants, who find their way to Tarqeq. Beginning as an experimental offshoot of the "Let's Keep Tarqeq Beautiful" program, the goal is to stop foreign disease, unwanted violence, and corporate lawyers from running rampant within the community. What started as simple police patrols with access to closed-circuit television networks, is now an extensive scientific research project, funded by the University of Tarqeq, and the Tarqeq Department of the Interior. The current TAP system can predict the landing point of travelers from other dimensions, as well as normal domestic modes of transport such as air, water, and space travel. Specialized droid (VED) units are dispatched to greet visitors, and escort them to special Welcome Centers. Simple surveys, medical exams, and weapons scans are performed. Once a visitor has been cleared, they are free to roam the city and take in the splendor that is Tarqeq.
