Norman: Sons of bitches! *gunfire*

This shall be a very directionless update. *yawns*

The last few days have been both stressful and fun.
I found out my financial aid from FAFSA was rejeected, due to my mother and my own combined incomes from 2002 being too high. You see, I'm under 24. So with them, I have to apply with a parent's tax info. All hope is not lost, however. There are plenty of alternate student loans out there, and I'll qualify for one. My bank for instance, doesn't base it on income, but rather the (hopefuly) good credit of a co-signer. My father or uncle would be willing to co-sign with me, so that's a safe option.

The fun part...well, there were some good movies on ^^;. Got to introduce Amber to Sam on the phone. And as always, I had some nice phone chats with other friends.

Well, I've really been enjoying Adult Swim, more than anything else on TV. They've been catching up on Inuyasha, getting to recent episodes I really like. They've also been showing the second season of Big O, which I mostly missed the first time. God I love that show. It always cheers me up, no matter my mood.

Big O isn't the deepest or best anime out there, but it has elements I do enjoy. But I may as well type a brief summary for the show:
Forty years ago, a great disaster struck the world. Everyones' memory was wiped, and now Paradigm City is the last civilized place on Earth. The only remnants of forty years ago are the Megadeuces: giant, piloted super robots. Roger Smith works as a freelance negotiator, diffusing all sorts of situations for people-hostage situations tend to be the most common. However, the city oft falls under attack from various powers, using Megadeuces and mutated creatures as their weapons. When this happens, Roger Smith summons the Big O, the Megadeuce he pilots. Roger was born with the memories necessary to pilot it, and he knows not why. As the show progresses, he begins to have flashbacks, and pieces together some things from his past. His allies include his butler Norman, and the orphan android he rescued during a negotiation, R. Dorothy Wayneright.
R. Doroty was built by an old scientist, to replace his dead grandaughter. Memories of the original Dorothy were installed into her, but she still maintains her own identity. The memories sometimes confuse her, but they also gift her with slight emotion, which she tries to hide. One could say that R. Dorothy truly has some humanity about her, because of this. All throughout the show, there are hints that Roger and R. Dorothy develop romantic feelings, for one another. Btw, she was built to the age Dorthy was when she died-which is close to 20, I believe(to smite all the pedophile accusations =P).
Norman doesn't have any revealed background about him, but he is nonetheless an interesting character. He sometimes helps Roger out in tough situations, donning battle gear and weapons...even though he's gotta be in his mid-sixties. Norman handles maintenance of Big O, as well as the automated/personal defenses of Roger's mansion. In the last episode I watched, a bunch of spider-bot thingies attacked the mansion, in an attempt to capture R. Dorothy for her memories. Norman defended as best he could, in several ways. He first manned the controls to some semi-automated machine guns, then he's firing mortars at these things in a hallway, wearing a battle helmet. Later, he holds a position on a stairwell with a GRENADE LAUNCHER O_O. Of course, he eventually runs out of ammo. Thinking he was done, he rather surprised me a minute later. A couple more bots crashed through the ceiling, and he reacted instantly.
Norman: Sons of bitches! *pulls out two pistols, and begins firing madly*
After that episode, I began to ponder what war(s) Norman is a veteran of. I mean geez, he's like senior Rambo in a tux! The thing is, he's very mild mannered when not battling.

Anyway...yeah, I love that show. I've grown fond of Roger Smith's character. He is in no way obligated to defend the city, but he does anyways-without any hope of getting recognition for it. He risks his life every time he pilots Big O, and has nearly lost that life on several occasions. He tends to get philosophical during battles, and I like that aspect. He also has a ton of self confidence in everything he does, which I admire in anybody. I've only seen him admit to fear once on the show, so one has to wonder how often he is truly scared when not showing it. He'll march right into a battle, hopelessly outnumbered, and not even flinch.

Bah, sorry for such a long rant. Hope everyone's doing well
