2015 DA FanFic Status Update

I always said that I would post the endings to the fics if I didn't think that I would end up finishing them. I've decided that now is a good of a time as any to post this.  So here is the abridged version of what was supposed to happen:

The XYZ Affair
The one shots for the rest of the alphabet exist in different lengths, scattered over different notebooks, slips of paper and digital files.  Consider this collection retired and incomplete.

Some Plot Bunnies:
  • Max makes a wish to get rid of Alec, and gets stuck in a world without him, making her suddenly realize what he means to her.
  • Sketchy wins a free ski weekend during a radio contest and takes Alec, Original Cindy and Max along with him, but things get interesting when it turns out that even Ames White takes vacations

After Life
There was never an actual story to this.  It was just me toying around with whatever popped into my head.  While there were a few other random scenes written, I have no intention of posting more of it.  Sorry for this one!

Between the Lines
Max meets her mother and discovers that she's the one behind the strike, as Vogel kidnapped her sister, Francesca.  It's a strange moment since Martina doesn't seem interested in Max, but says in the end that while they might not be genetically related, she would be proud to consider Max family, but she would be leaving SanFran once she got her sister and move underground.  Max rescues Martina's sister from Vogel and discovers that Alec is only on the trip because Logan was paying him to be there.  Martina tells Max that she believes there's more to Alec being there than money.  Max and Alec have a fight and go their own ways at the hotel.  When they get to the bus station and can't find the other, they get worried and while looking for each other they miss the bus - which happens to be out of business after the bus that leaves.  Max and Alec steal a car to get home, but it breaks down on the drive to Seattle, prompting them to have a heated argument about Logan being unable to be there, leading up to Alec kissing Max.  He exits the car and it becomes the reason why he was missing from the Harbor Lights episode when Max is stuck at the hospital.

Against Time
This was always meant to be a three part series: Just Another 48 Hours (complete), Wake Me Up When September Ends (still in progress), and finally the unposted story A Long December. There is a lot more stuff in my notes, but this is the quick and dirty version. Wake was supposed to develop Lydecker working with an angle the entire time, but the military wants to wrap up the Terminal City situation.  Lydecker tells Max that Logan was the one who tipped him off about Ben (I was running on the assumption that Max never told Logan the truth about Ben), which puts her at odds with him.  When Terminal City is low on supplies, Max is forced to concede to Lydecker's demands to leave Seattle.  This causes friction between Max and the others, and in a moment of weakness she and Alec sleep together.  Unbeknownst to them, Lydecker has bugged the apartment and he sends the video to Logan.  Dalton is upset that Alec broke his promise about not going back, and he runs off on Alec's bike, getting caught by Ames and company.  Lydecker admits that he and Sandeman are working together and the convoy will take them to him to help him stop the Phalanx.  Max and Alec are forced to rescue Dalton, but when the military convoy arrives, Alec tells Max that he's not going with them.  The story ends with Alec and Max parting ways, while Logan and Max are on cold terms, but still allies.

A Long December picks up two months later at the beginning of December, when Alec has a nightmare about Max and his friends, prompting him to reach out to Logan to find out what has happened.  He goes to Seattle and is haunted by seeing all of the Christmas decorations, recalling that the other transgenics had been excited for the holiday.  Logan tells him that Max has been checking in with him, and that she and the others are actually with Sandeman in Montana, but her communications with him have been more sporadic.  They are looking for Patient Zero, who Sandeman created Brain to locate.  Patient Zero is a normal person that the Phalanx intends to use to spread the virus to destroy who they believe are the weaker part of humanity, but Sandeman does not know who will be selected.  In the meantime, he's working to develop a cure.  Alec goes to them, but the Phalanx catches on and Ames figures out where his father is, an old camping town from when he was a child.  Alec arrives barely before the Phalanx and helps Max to escape after Ames shoots his father.  Max's blood was used to synthesize a vaccine, and Alec is told that getting her safe is more important than staying back to help their friends, though it tears up the two of them to leave alone.  Max and Alec disappear into the winter wilderness, deciding to hide in Terminal City again.  Their relationship is strained by the fact that there's something more between them, but they can't have it.  It turns out that Terry Caldwell is Patient Zero, who they reluctantly take out during a live broadcast, and it goes on national television when Ames is caught on camera that the transgenics were trying to save everyone.  Joshua, Mole, Dalton and the others reappear in Seattle as heroes (there are other details relating to who survives and a subplot with Max's siblings, but I can't give all of it away).  The series ends with Terminal City being given to the transgenics with the understanding that they will work for the Department of Defense, and finally having a home.  Max and Logan have received a cure for the virus, but both acknowledge that her heart lies somewhere else.  The series ends with Alec seeming like he's about to leave again, but he kisses her instead.  The ending circles back to Max's voiceover introduction in Season 1 saying that it all seems like a story, and that while there's more to life than happy endings, it's a good place to end a story.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is how the story was supposed to unfold.  Perhaps someday I'll go back to finish them, because I went back to the show years after for inspiration back in 2008.  I'm grateful for everyone I've met in the fandom, who've read, reviewed or revised with me.  Thank you.  Until I return, good night and good luck!
