Seeking a Paralegal job.

Aug 14, 2009 22:37

I was just laid off today from my job as a Defense Litigation Paralegal. I have a year's worth of experience, a BA from Florida State, and will have finished my Paralegal degree in either Fall 2009 or Spring 2010. I have a profile with LinkedIn, and am doing the research regarding firms in two areas: where I currently live with my fiance, and where we'll be moving in November (about 50 miles away). I'm not afraid to commute. :)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about the job search? I realize that I'm fortunate as a now-former Litigation Paralegal, but still have the feeling that the search is going to be difficult. Of course, it's hard for everyone now! I have e-mails coming in from CareerBuilder and will be sending resumes and cover letters to as many firms as humanly possible, but other than that, I'm not sure how to effectively go about searching.

Oh, and let's not forget networking! I'm lucky that I also have a lot of friends from my old firm who are willing to keep their eyes peeled, and an office manager who offered to write a recommendation letter as she delivered the "I'm sorry, but we're letting you go" news. I'm also trying to get in contact with one of the equity partners with whom I've worked the entire time I was there -- here's to hoping she pulls through!

Anyway, if anyone else has any advice, I'd love to hear it. Oh, and if you know anyone hiring a paralegal in or around Orlando and Cocoa, please let me know. :) Thank you!!
