Podfic Cons!

Nov 13, 2011 16:49

Podfic as a fan art is still relatively small, even if it's growing quickly. There are positive steps that can be taken to help podfic as a fan art grow. To learn how check out pod_aware on LJ or DW.

Today is the last day of pod_aware and the theme is encouraging podfic. Know what I think would be awesome for encouraging podfic? PODFIC CONS ( Read more... )

In the group podfic recording room, it would be cool to have a bunch of stories with blanket permission printed out ahead of time. And highlighters. At least, when I have group recorded stories as podfic, we often go through and divide up the parts and highlight, and then we perform. Or else there could be a projector hooked up to a computer so that the words would be up on a big screen, and they could be colored/highlighted in whatever way the readers wanted in preparation for the story ( ... )

Hmmm, I wouldn't want to assume what kinds of stories people would want to read, but maybe it'd be a good idea to have a computer and printer (and highlighters) available? Or the projector like you mentioned.

I was imagining that it'd be something people would sign up for but I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of there being an audience in the room. I know that in a group setting it's easy for podficcers to get flustered and screw up their reading and, yeah, the background noise would be hard to control.

Well, maybe people could decide if they wanted to allow an audience or not. I know I'd really enjoy watching some people perform, and I wouldn't mind if people wanted to watch me. But you're also right, I'm sure, that it would be really unfun for some people.

It would also be nice to have organized stuff that people could sign up for last-minute, or to let people meet and then decide to podfic together right away, so to have some stuff available for them to do more spontaneously.

(For time that work really well for me, the last weekend of June/first weekend of August would be perfect. Or Memorial Day weekend, if it's in May, might work, as long as nothing significant happened on Friday...)

Yes to everything!

I think May is good, though the second half of May is better for me, personally. Your idea about the rooms sounds fine to me. (Group podfic! Yay!)

I'll think about ideas for events, panels, and parties, but mostly I just wanted to throw in my support. I'm definitely interested in getting more info.

I'd love to volunteer, but I may not be able to commit much time. Keep me in mind, and we'll see?

Cool! I think it would be the second half of May at the least, although some people have been making noises about June being better, so we'll see. :D

Definitely let me know if you come up with ideas (and volunteering can also be things like running a panel, helping stack chairs/clean up right after the con, it doesn't have to be a huge time commitment. :)

Lindsay. I know I've told you this (maybe not in so many words), but.

No matter what I'm doing, no matter what I have going fannishly or IRL, no matter what my bank account looks like: you can put me down as a fucking ORGANIZER for this.

I'm not joking. I just texted my mom (who works for Delta) to look up prices for me to fly to Toronto.

Well, I really hope I'll be able to go to the European one, so hopefully we can meet up then! I want to meet all my new European podfic friends!

Out of curiosity, if the con were in June would you possibly be able to make it?

Wow! School goes much later where you live than it does here. I remember finishing school around June 25th as a kid....

I'm pretty sure, at this point, I'd be willing to sell a kidney or something to go to the European one. I think the only thing that would really stop me is if this con were to leave me with personal debt. :-/ Which I know is a risk when you run a con, especially the first year of a con when you're not quite sure about the numbers and how much everything will cost.

Oh man, I would love to go to ALL THE CONS but there's no way I could make it to this one. Travel + money + May AND June (and possibly ALL THE OTHER MONTHS UNTIL I FINISH MY PHD) are just really bad /o\
