NuitSongeur decided that I ought to do YGO, Death Note, and Pokemon, so, here we go...
YGO
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
Well, originally, I stumbled upon the anime while flipping channels and waiting for either Pokemon or Digimon to come on after school when I was in sixth grade. Found Yu-Gi-Oh!, but, for the life of me, I can't remember what episode it was. All I know is, it looked cool, with monsters and stuff like Pokemon. So I kept watching, and my siblings started watching it with me. I got into the card game, bought cards and learned how to duel from the guys in my grade (I was, to my credit, absolutely AWFUL. Went for the cute cards that I thought looked good, not the strong ones). Then I got out of it, mostly because it was the Battle City arc and my mom had decided the show was too "violent" for us. So, I stopped. Then, last year (11th grade), I stumbled upon it again in the fanfiction realm. Loved it, started reading the manga and the anime again. In Japanese, and including the fabled "Season 0". Now, pft. I'm a good little fangirl. One who bought "Eternal Duelist's Soul" for the GBA for $2 and decided it was crap, but good repetitive fun. The Abridged Series and Fandub, of course, have helped a bit, too. XD
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
I think I'll stay, at least for now. I like writing the fanfics, and thinking of potential ideas. What if it had focused more on certain other characters, like Ryou or Rishid or even Honda/Tristan? What would that have done?
...I hate Tristan/Honda, by the way. But still. It's an intriguing fandom, and one I'm rather fond of fooling with. Just for kicks.
03: Favourite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
Oh, definitely the last few episodes of Season 0, or the manga chapters those episodes were pulled from, where Ryou is first introduced and gets taken over by Bakura for the first time (that we see). You know, the part with the Tabletop RPG? I loved that. Especially all of the conversation between Ryou and Bakura. That's influenced a lot of my writing about the two. And who doesn't like seeing Ryou have his hand impaled on a plastic castle turret, or him using one hand to type an entire PARAGRAPH to himself? Seriously.
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
Yeah, I write fanfiction for it. Lots and lots, in my mind, though it gets kinda hard sometimes. I should probably finish a few chapters, actually... I draw a bit, too, and I'm always up for discussions about Bakura, Ryou, and/or Touzoku. Who I also love, by the way.
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
Sure, why not? It's pretty big anyway, but still. I like it; why don't they? JUST STOP IT WITH THE ABUSIVE PAIRINGS, DAMMIT! >__<
Death Note
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
The slightly-less-than-constant referencing it from my friends online. I went onto Mangafox.com and started reading the manga and loved it. It was all just a huge socialogical debate, really, with morals and a competition that boiled down to who was quicker on his feet. I loved Light, with his misconstrued definition of what was right and what was wrong, and L just wowed me. Honestly. I almost cried when L died, though I knew it had to happen; I stopped reading because Mello and Near, well... they just weren't L, you know? But still. I argue about Light and L and the reasoning behind why Light technically won, even though he died at the end of the series. It's good stuff.
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
Oh, I'll stay. There's quite a lot for me to digest and argue over with other people, and L was just so, so... Awesome. Seriously.
03: Favourite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
The part of the series where Misa, L, and Light were all handcuffed together, right up until where Light got the Death Note back. Seriously. L was hilarious then, and Light's face when he touched the paper... MAN, that was CREEPY. But great, too. Even though Misa's an annoying little thing.
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
Fiction, no, because I don't know what to write. I don't draw, because my art skills are lacking. But I do discuss it. I'm willing to argue for whether Light was right or wrong in what he did (I argue both sides, lucky me), and about L in general. Also, I tend to sit L-style when I'm bored and eating. It's hard, but I'm mastering it!
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
There's already a LOT of people into Death Note; I think it'd be hard to get more in there, but sure, why not? I need more people to argue with, dammit! XD
Pokemon
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
God, I had to be in second grade, or at the end of first grade. Regardless, I was flipping channels on.... Labor Day weekend? and I found the first of the S.S. Anne episodes on TV. I was hooked, and my sisters, both of them, followed me on that. I got Red Version and a red Game Boy Pocket for Christmas; Kelsey, my older sister, got Blue and a blue Game Boy Pocket. Maddy, being younger, got a see-through Game Boy Pocket and Tamagotchi or something; when Yellow came out, she got that, and promptly put it through the washing machine. But anyway. I got Gold Version and a Pikachu-and-Pichu Gold-and-Silver Game Boy Color for my 10th birthday (yay), and got my little brother, Ethan, hooked on it; he was, what, three? Anyway, I sorta took a hiatus from the fandom for a few years, and came right back in when my brother got Ruby version for Christmas when I was 12. After that, well... I've become a huge fangirl of the games. The anime, meh... not so much, especially after they changed the voices. TT-TT
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
Stay, definitely. It's just something that I can do well and easily and talk about with other people. I can tutor small children and talk with them about it like I'm one of them, but still explain it to the parents. It's GREAT.
03: Favourite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
For the movies, I really liked the 3rd one. And Mewtwo Returns. That was good, too. I like all of the manga (and ONLY the manga, as far as books go), and the video games? The only ones I dislike are the Ranger games, because they HURT. My poor wrist...
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
Yep! Though, not fanfiction. Not yet. I don't quite have the inspiration to do that. But I discuss it CONSTANTLY.
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
But of course! We actually need more people around my age in it. I'm getting kinda sad about it... Though I did somehow make Gilby want to play the games again. Must've been my obsessive conversations about having to EV train my Blaziken.... >__>
