After hearing the transmission for the interviews, Yuffie had headed straight towards the City Hall. It wasn't just finding something to do, it wasn't just fighting the monsters. It was more than that.

There was no materia to hunt, no Nation needing saving. But the likes of Marlene, ones like Marlene, they needed protecting from these things. And Yuffie wanted to help.

When she was called to enter the office, that she would be seen, Yuffie plastered a grin on her face and went for what was, in all reality, her first ever job interview. "Hello?"

The Regent was seated behind his desk, the presence of the armed guards behind him stationed at the window no accident. Although appearing no older than a human male of forty of so, the Regent somehow seemed to have seen many more years than that.

He waved a hand at the girl in the doorway. "Hi. Come in and have a seat please." Tenting his fingers on the desk, he cocked an eyebrow and began, "So, what's your name?"

Her grin didn't slip, not even as she glanced at the armed guards. The Regent kind of reminded her of Rufus Shinra, only less pompous, maybe. She did as he said, moving to take the seat in front of the desk.

"I'm Yuffie Kisaragi, from Gaia. Do you know where that is are you just as clueless as we are about this place?"

She didn't exactly have the brain to mouth filter in effect yet, it seemed. "Nice office."

One finger tapped his upper lip; his minions stirred behind him. But he didn't give the order, for once.

"No, as a matter of fact, I don't." The Regent waved a dismissive hand. "Nor do I care. Fact is, you're stuck here with the rest of us, so you might as well forget about your former world, Miss ...Kisaragi." God, what a mouthful.

"Moving right along, what skills do you have to offer me in the way of city protection?" He cocked an eyebrow. "And consider carefully, sarcasm isn't exactly tolerated."

Later, she might feel bad about losing Wutai, and the others. But his tone and attitude made think about the questions instead. "I'm a ninja." She said it with her usual defensive tone, all attitude and bluster.

She was still seen as just a child playing big girl far too often for her liking. "I saved my Planet working with AVALANCHE a few years ago, but I'm mostly working in espionage and infiltration these days with WRO." Not that he'd know what either of those things were, but Yuffie didn't bother explaining.

"Sneaky as a thief, and I'm little," she grinned, as if he couldn't see that she was kind of small, "I'm pretty fast and awesome because of it." If he didn't know about Gaia, he wouldn't care that she was Princess of Wutai. So she didn't bring it up.

The Regent processed all this silently, then stirred from his thoughts to ask a single question.

"How are you with comrades dying violently?"

She wasn't good with it at all, in the least, she hated it. "I can deal."

If she had to deal she would; but Cloud and Tifa and Marlene and Aerith. Well, Yuffie would do her damnedest to stop anything happening to them. She was sure Cloud would be fine, and the others, it was just a matter of being the best she could be.

"Just have to work to make sure it doesn't happen, y'know, frequently." But she'd heard about the previous enforcer group, the ones that went beyond the wall. She knew it was possible.

"I really hope so." He scrutinizes her for a moment longer, then asks, "What about weaponry? Do you have your own or will you need equipment? Tom does his best with what he has, but if you have your own, that's preferable. Of course, he provides government employees with free repairs, as long as he's familiar with whatever you bring him."

A beat, then, "And magic?"

"Well, I have Fuma," which she'd been forced to leave behind, "my Shuriken. Which holds these orbs, called Materia, which have magical abilities and increase the effectiveness of my attacks."

She had to force herself not to ramble on, he didn't seem like the type to listen to rambling, so she wouldn't. Ramble. At least not vocally.

"I have a few of my materia here, they wouldn't let me bring it in though. But its' both offensive and defensive and really great in a pinch."

When it was all said and done, the Regent knew he was going to hell. Oh, he was sure there was a special spot reserved just for him down there, amid the fire and brimstone. But hey, what was he supposed to do?

Nevertheless, this kid seemed sincere in her desire to help; he'd learned long ago how to read people and sense their intentions. Which was why he gave his version of a smile - a bare curve of thin lips - and waved a hand her way.

"Sounds great. You got a spot on the Force. We're still holding interviews, so I can't say for sure who's going to end up where and doing what, but I'll let you know when things are organized. In the meantime, see my secretary on the way out and she'll get you entered into the system."

"Really?" Her first ever job interview and it was a success. Ha, Pops said she'd never get far. Look at her. Well, y'know other than the whole fact that she wasn't even home. "Awesome."

Standing up, she gave a mock salute and grinned at the two guards as she started to back out of the office. "This'll be great, just you wait and see. I'mma be awesome."

With a little jump, Yuffie turned around to walk out and towards the secretary. Wait till she told Tifa, Cloud and Aerith.
