The events leading up to her getting trapped within an abandoned building with zombies was a bit of a blur. All she knew was that she was emotionally unstable and that was never a good thing when it came down to it. Lauren yelled and screamed at the top of her lungs, but nothing came. It just excited the zombies more and she has no empathy over them.

She managed to push abandoned filing cabinets and various other pieces of furniture onto the ground to create some obstacles between her and the zombies, but they weren't working as well as she'd like. This wasn't the way she wanted to die; she wasn't ready, but if she was supposed to die, it shouldn't be to zombies.

She was perched atop a rather tall bookcase that wasn't very stable, but it was better than nothing.

Coming out of the portal wasn't the best thing for Grant's nausea. Holding the gun away and getting a safe distance from Mercy he got rid of everything that was in his stomach and more. A small shiver went up his spine that threatened to make the rest of his body shake, but he fought it away, wiping his mouth and cocking the gun into place.

"She's inside...and so are they." Of course she was trapped in there with a mass of goddamn zombies. He could feel them, he could smell them, and he wanted to puke again. But he pressed forward and into the building. He knew Mercy would follow suit.

Pushing his sickness aside Grant aimed his gun carefully for focal points in the zombies crowding around the entrance, planting bullets into their skulls and then using the blunt of the gun to bash their heads in. He had to save Mercy's bullets, and he didn't have time to mess around.

The fact that she couldn't even smell the puke was worrying, but the stench of decaying flesh was far too strong. And ever the focused one, Grant pressed on. She could feel the emotional disturbance, feel the instability around them and that alone told her that Lauren wasn't okay, at all.

"Right behind you." And she was, the moment she got in range, Mercy swung the beam, and if she'd been at all focused she would've commented on the skull splitting open like a watermelon. But there were other things on her mind, namely getting Lauren, and getting Grant checked out. It wasn't a check up he needed anymore, it was treatment, some serious intervention on whatever infection those foul things had give him.

"Lauren!" Yeah, they sure as shit couldn't linger around.

Lauren's emotional state would have been better if she had more bullets; but she only have a clip on her person and that was disposed of rather quickly. She let out a rather high pitched scream when they tried to climb onto the bookshelf and one of the boards broke. It was enough to set the shelf to sway more than it was.

Her eyes shot open when she heard gunshots. It was hard to hear since her mind was so overwhelmed with things and hearing was the one sense that dulled down, but she was able to feel that it was Mercy and Grant's emotional signature.

The atmosphere in the room lightened a great deal and it wasn't so overpowering since she was able to control her emotions better. "Grant! Mercy!"

Lauren's scream made Grant freeze in his tacks, a shiver of fear shooting down his spine before he began to cut down the zombies more fervently. He could feel his body giving way and he needed to get to Lauren. She was trapped.

"Lauren! We're coming!" But he was getting slower, even for the zombies. One managed to scratch at his face, temporarily tossing his head to the side. Grant hissed and shot at the Zombie in the face before reaching out with his hands to separate the head from it's body and moving past the others to try and get to Lauren's bookshelf.

He turned around to check on Mercy before looking back at the shelves. Pulling one of the planks that they had broken from the shelf Grant used it to pummel them with, until he felt his body quiver again. And he was seeing...two zombies? at once. "Mercy..."

With her plank in hand, Mercy beat of the fuckers like there was no tomorrow, "Get, get Lauren out." They couldn't get boxed in, that much she knew. God, if they got stuck in there they were toast, and she wasn't sure how far she'd manage with another portal before she burst a vessel and passed out.

And that wouldn't help anyone.

"We need to get out, right now." And then they could figure out if Lauren was injured, if they needed to use a portal or if they'd make it to the clinic at all. With the place a mess of blood, guts and rotting zombies, Mercy dropped her plank of wood with a shaking breath. Her cheek stung from getting an elbow in the face, but beyond that she was running purely on adrenaline. "Come on."

"Come on, you two!" She motioned for them to come towards her. "There's an exit over here, but I couldn't get to it with so many --" just as she was about to finish her sentence, a zombie crashed into the bookshelf and sent it crashing to the ground in pieces. Lauren let out a cry in pain as a piece of wood stuck into her leg, but that didn't stop her.

She was training in hand-to-hand combat, but she didn't like the idea of a zombie being that close to her. Quickly she removed the blade from her boot and started slashing at the zombies. "Hurry up!"

Another cry from Lauren pulled Grant from his waning senses. Gritting his teeth he squinted his eyes, trying to will the disoriented vision back together. Using the plank still in his hand he smashed them out of the way for Mercy to join him so they could get to Lauren.

With the three of them in one area to fend off the zombies together at once. But there wasn't enough time to turn and run to the exit. Thinking quickly, Grant moved to push another shelf over at the zombies, then a filing cabinet. "Now, go!"

He scrambled to push at the other two girls towards the exit, using Mercy's gun to shoot off any stray zombie not caught in the shelfing.

With Mercy following Lauren, trusting that the empath knew where they were going, how to get out and away from the zombies, Mercy only had to make sure that Grant kept with them. Bitten as he was, ill as he was getting, he was sluggish, Mercy could see that in his movements, and that meant they had to move, quick.

"We need to get him to the clinic, now." Mercy wouldn't bring up that they should've been there instead of here, she didn't mention that Grant wouldn't leave without Lauren. It was stuff that they could talk about or not talk about later.

But first they needed to make sure there was a later for Grant. "Is your leg okay?" Because Mercy wasn't up to carrying them both.

Even if she didn't have the ability to persuade them with empathy, she was still able to feel remnants of human emotions, so she was able to feel where they were. There were some that she had a trouble feeling, but she trusted herself since she needed to get Mercy and Grant out of there safely. They, after all, came to save her.

Reaching behind her, Lauren grabbed a hold of Grants wrist and pushed him out in front of her and pulled the door closed. "This won't keep them at bay for long, but this is the best option we've got. Do you know the way to the clinic from here? I'm still getting used to the layout of everything."

When she was asked about her leg, she glanced down at it. "I'm fine as long as I keep it in."

The only thing Grant could do was focus on two things now. Breathing, and running. He stumbled a little when Lauren grabbed ahold of him and pushed him past her through the door. She and Mercy's words were slurring in his head.

Leaning back against a wall he glanced down at his injuries before shivering violently. God, everything was so distorted. He was so hot and nauseas....what were they saying? The clinic. Right.

He couldn't help them now. He knew where the clinic was, he was sure of it. But Grant could hardly stand much less try and remember directions. Swallowing, he looked up to where he thought Mercy was standing. "Can..you make a portal?"

She shouldn't, she knew she was pushing it now, but fuck, if they didn't now. "Hold on to your stomachs, it's not going to be smooth."

It never was when she was on edge, she tried not to do it in those situations, but really, when it came to life or death, and death being at the hands of zombies -horror movie zombies, well, she wasn't really sure which was worse. Oblivion wouldn't hurt as much, that she knew.

"Right to the doors." The portal was slow, opening in front of Grant as the link opened up beyond it and Mercy felt her head throb from the pressure before she gave Grant a light push and a nod to Lauren. They had to be quick before those things followed them. "Go, go. Come on."

She could feel the blood trickling from her nose, a swipe of the back of her hand across her upper lip clearing it before she stepped through the portal and closed the back one off.

Lauren took a deep breath at the thought of going through another one of Mercy's portals. The last one she went through landed her in this place and she wasn't really looking forward to being sent elsewhere. She trusted Mercy and had a feeling that it was this place that pulled her to it and not one of her portals messing up.

When Grant was through, Lauren slipped through and didn't like Mercy looked.

He had enough in him to step through the portal. That was it. Mercy was an angel for making the portal at the doors. And thank god those doors were automatic. Grant was beginning to sweat buckets, his skin on fire, and his vision/senses out the window. Breathing haggardly he trudged into the clinic, half stumbling, before his body finally gave way and met the floor under him.

Well, he made it. The others were safe and they had saved Lauren. And he got to the clinic, just like he promised he would. Grant wondered if him staying alive was part of the promise. He hoped it wasn't. The world was horribly black.

Mercy stumbles out the portal, right beside Lauren, as the doors slide shut behind them and activity starts around Grant. At least they don't need to call for help. Vortex knows she needs to sit down, the world spins and she feels the last bit of the portal clinging to her skin the way it does when she can't shake it all.

It's only happened to her once before, when she over shot the mark in Rhode Island and fell into Illinois instead of Vancouver.

"Your leg," her voice is weak, a little shaky, it's obvious who she's talking to, "you should get it checked, while they take care of Hunt." The doctors are already swarming, gathering him up, finding the wound and Mercy isn't following a word they say. She knew they were capable, saved her life from radiation poisoning. But she doubts Lauren or herself will leave the clinic without Grant.

Lauren's body was still in the fight and she was having a hard time calming down. Her heart was still beating a million miles a minute and her breathing was still hard. It was going to take longer for her to calm down than it normally would; they were dealing with zombies and not the things she was used to dealing with on a daily basis back in their world. The fact that Grant was close to death's door didn't help her any.

"I think my leg can wait," she said between pants as she tried to calm down. "Not hitting anything major and I think Grant needs all the attention he can get."
