Edward & Elizabeth Shipper Rant
I love the BBC, I love the royals and I’m an anglophile, so I was excited beyond words to find this show.
Elizabeth Woodville and Edward Plantagenet (Edward IV) have gone down in history as one of the few royal couples to truly, deeply, passionately love each other.
I am heartbroken that they butchered their love story halfway through The White Queen by deciding to turn Edward IV into a drunken, semi-feelingless ass who messed around on her. They basically make him into Henry VIII towards the end of their storyline, which he….wasn’t.
There was plenty of angst and drama in the true story. There was no need to butcher the best part for dramatic effect.
TWQ’s Edward begins as the romantic hero in shining armor - literally - and then for no good reason, he becomes the generic, entitled bastard that gives all Kings a bad name. It was so out of character.
I did not feel Edward's profession of love for her while on his deathbed did much to redeem his character, even though I'm pretty sure that’s what the writers were aiming for.
The real life Edward did not turn into a cowardly, inebriated Neanderthal. He truly was a kind, honorable king and a wonderful, loving husband to Elizabeth.
I love this pairing. Nothing's going to change that. I do plan on mentally ending their storyline with 1x09, while everyone's still in character. I am relieved in knowing that the writers took some creative license with the storytelling and that in reality, Edward and Elizabeth were truly in love and would remain so for the rest of their lives.
Rebecca Ferguson and Max Irons…boy, talk about romantic chemistry! Wow, they made you believe in love like this. They make you feel how in love they are in every, single scene. And their love scenes were magic!
What a captivating royal romance! This will remain one of my favorite on-screen/real life ships.
Bad writing be damned. *winks*
