RIP Skinemax: Cinemax Looking to Ditch "After Dark" Softcore Porn

Well this totally sucks.  There’s been a boost of sexuality in a variety of mediums (books, fan fiction, sex toy companies, boudoir photography, lingerie…) yet the film industry remains unyielding when it comes to producing pleasurable sex scenes and storylines.

I kept wondering why so much sexual content in films is raunchy, immature, not erotic, and often just all around offensive to watch.  Then I did some research and discovered that explicit sexual content has been illegal to film since 1969.

Yeah, we had to stop those free hippie children from thinking about love, sex, and rock ‘n’ roll and ship them over to Vietnam to die like obedient children do!  Violence in films, of course, was not outlawed.  Naaaa, violence is a good thing!  So that, they kept!  Sex, though, omg, let’s outlaw filming that immediately.
Films get around this law by doing ‘satires’ or ‘parodies’ of sex scenes; thereby often making a mockery of it.  THIS explains why so much of Hollywood’s sexual content comes off crude and awkward instead of as content that leaves you feeling flushed, turned on, even orgasmic.

And honestly, why else would you bother to film or watch a love scene?  I certainly don’t tune into love scenes to be shocked or offended, do you?  I tune in for the same reason I open a one shot NC-17 fan fic!  I want the goods!  *grin*

I also LOVE that they outlawed X rated (AKA NC-17) films the year after Midnight Cowboy (Rated X) won an Oscar.  So obviously whether or not the films were taken seriously by the Academy or by the people has no bearing on patriarchal fanaticism.

It was censored.  The end!  *authoritative figure has spoken*

Yeah well, you know, groovy.  I can speak too.  I say 46 years is long enough.  I say we change this. 🍸

era: sex drugs rock 'n' roll, lj: rant, misc: patriarchy, women's liberation
