Smallville Episode Rant - 10x18 Dominion & 10x20 Prophecy

May 08, 2011 14:36

Hi everyone! Cricketgrl requested a new rant, so this is for her!  Shockingly, for the first time in a long time, I have some positive things to say about Smallville, but fear not, there's plenty to complain about, and I'm sure next week, which I'm sure I won't watch in entirety, I will have a heart attack and die afterwards, but the last two episodes have actually provided positive material.  But let's rant first!!!

10x20 Prophecy
[ Warning - This rant may completely tick off "mythos" Cloisers ]

Lemme say that I missed the first 10 or so minutes, so apparently I missed the goods. I think that the plot of Lois being "super" is possibly a little overdone, but actually, I surprisingly enjoyed it despite the fact that it still seemed a bit filler as has most of this season. I am not a fan of Clark wearing glasses, I don't care if it's canon, this is Smallville, an alternate universe and motherfucker, it's Tom Welling, do not cover up his pretty face. I want him shirtless and uncovered the way god intended.  *off track*

Anyway. Lois Lane. I love her in power, I like her strong, and we were finally seeing that again after horrific episodes like Scion where she basically gets raped and is peachy about it. What asshole wrote crap like that? I could name names, but it's not necessary. We're all familiar.  I loved that they actually gave Lois and Clark some layers, discussing what Clark went through as a person when he has to be a superhero and make choices.  So I'm going along, thinking FINALLY, I'll be able to stand an episode of Clois again, and then they stab me with that final scene of the break up, an episode before the last, fucking me over on a number of different levels and I'm like, "Really?" And I just felt too exhausted to even be surprised at the audacity of their stupidity.  I'm watching the show with my mama who was like, "Sweetie, this is canon. The tragic love story of them never quite being together, constantly breaking up because she thinks he's better off without her, it's too dangerous, blah blah blah. That's why it's the greatest love story."

Okay, pardon me, but BULLSHIT!

[ Beware "Mythos" Cloisers ]

This is not what I signed up for in Season 4 as a Cloiser, and maybe I'm not a true one in the "mythos" sense, but I felt in that scene that I was watching a remake of Clana. Lois doesn't believe she can be with Clark? Seriously? How many times are we gonna go through this crap and how many times is it gonna shake MY own personal faith that this is the greatest love story of all? Get it together and stay together. Quit doubting your own love story and make the commitment.  We already had 8 years of Clana and only 2 of Clois. We already have a 100 more reasons to believe Clark loves Lana more than Lois, the whole "choice VS destiny" saga. I don't need to watch Lois break up with Clark two seconds before the wedding day and the episode right before the finale to FURTHER shake our faith!  WHAT THE FUCK!!!  Didn't Lois JUST hold a gun to Tess's head (which was totally unnecessary, but I'll get to that) and say, "Being a hero's wife means never accepting defeat?" So WHAT did you just do, Lois?  I need better writing than this, folks.

10x19 Dominion

Lois, for crying out loud, do I need to grab you by the ears and remind you of the concept of feminism? WTF. It was Clark's plan, he's an idiot, he confided in another woman, and you pull Tess's own gun on her and don't even raise your voice to Clark? I mean I love you like no other, and if this were still Season 8-9, I'd be game for you to beat the hell out of her, but she's doing everything she can to the point of appointing herself as a slave to you all and you do that?

Sisterhood! You let Chloe get away with murder, literally, don't turn on the only other strong woman on the show. Come on now. I understand the situation and how terrified and betrayed you felt, but that was pushing it just a tad. *pouts*

We got TOLLIE!!! OMG! Finally! I loved, I loved! Something positive in a show full of driving Paradise crazy!!! Thank you Justin Hartley!!! Direct yourself in scenes with Cassidy and no other women, THANK YOU, SIR!

I mean it's good to know that one phone call from Tess and Oliver just up and leaves his wife, right? And no mention of her at all in the whole episode!!! That's the kinda episode I'm talking about!!! Dominion wasn't all bad! LOL!

Tess: Clark, you'll be powerless. Oliver has more experience with that.
Oliver (sarcastically): Thanks.

OMG, greatest line ever. Possibly the first time she wasn't intentionally trying to jab at him, but I love the way they are. And her tending to his wounds...notice how Justin directed himself WITH a shirt on. If he hadn't been directing that, half-naked Oliver Queen, trust me. And awww, "I knew you were coming but sneaking up on me, that's just showing off."  I was so filled up, unexpectedly. I never thought I'd get something good again before the end of the show, and I just wanna give Justin a big kiss! And unlike most of the female population, I do not wanna sleep with him! But I am in total adoration of him right now. :)

In conclusion, I did enjoy Clois and Tollie in these episodes, wanted more from them in both, but this is a POSITIVE thing. I have such lowered expectations with this show that I practically have to have none. SO YAY!!! Despite the rant, yay for the pairings!
