Do not let Republican men redefine what rape is to a woman. Please read and sign the petition.

Let me see if I've understood that petition correctly.

I guess "federal dollars can't be used for abortion except in cases of rape" means that if a woman ends up pregnant because she was raped she doesn't have to pay the hospital bill for the abortion and possibly not for consecutive counselling either? Do I understand that correctly (sorry, but I'm not all that familiar with how federal dollars may or may not be spent)?

What if she was too scared to fight back? Or drugged so she couldn't fight back? Wouldn't she be eligible for that kind of help if this new proposition becomes federal law? From the wording of the petition I would guess not.

The proposition is downright scary if so. Okay, it's scary anyway. Whenever someone has been vicitmized and brutalized so severely, money should never been an issue for the poor woman, or for the hospital or the government either for that matter! It's just sickening how people prioritize money over the well-being of people. That, and their own values in some cases I guess since it wouldn't surprise me in the least if some of the people supporting that bill would preferably get abortion outlawed no matter what the circumstances may be.

Okay, if I understand you correctly, then yes. The republicans are only defining rape to mean if you have physical harm, AKA tearing or bruising on your vaginal or some other opening.

So if you were drugged, scared, blackmailed, coerced, you are just plain out of luck. Which makes me very angry. No man should define what rape is to a woman, or take away any medical care based on his definition. He will never know what a pregnancy resulting from a rape feels like, nor should he get to take away medical coverage for it, ever.

Sorry, I tend to get incoherent when I'm angry. And the basic premise of what I read made me outraged, to say the least.

But it does make me curious: did any female member of Congress or the House of Representatives support the bill?
