Kate Moreau
Originally posted by little--vogue Kate Moreau was my least favorite love interest for Neal. She was a vapid gold digger who used Neal the way she used Adler and Keller and probably several other men to get what she wanted. Kate knew she had one thing in her favor and she needed to cash in on it with a single score right NOW. Her entire purpose in life was to get that big score. She didn’t care about nor have time for love.
Kate was completely undeserving of Neal and at no point was I convinced she had any feelings for him at all, let alone that she loved him. The writers also didn’t do a very good job of showing us why Neal was so in love with her during the flashback episode 2x11 Forging Bonds, we only saw Neal fall for her instantly and remain in love with her for the remainder of the show. I think the writers had an entirely different storyline in mind with the character of Kate, but due to Alexandra Daddario’s severe lack of acting skills, I think they changed the storyline so that Kate would no longer be on screen very much, and then they briefly brought her back and promptly killed her off. I think this turned out to be a brilliant move on the writer’s part, because it gave us the opportunity to see the entire storyline through Neal’s eyes and have him grow as a character through his storyline with the character of Kate, regardless of if she was on screen with him or not. I absolutely believe that Neal was not so much in love with Kate, but in love with the idea of Kate. And his idea bared no resemblance to the actual woman that she was.
Alex Hunter
Originally posted by duskendales As far as love interests go, Alex Hunter is the only real possibility for Neal. The alternatives are Kate Monroe, who’s dead and probably didn’t love Neal to begin with. We also have Sara Ellis, the insurance recovery agent whose moral values go against everything Neal Caffrey ‘The Conman’ stand for, (though she stretched her morals as far as she could for him), and we finally have Rebecca Lowe, the trained assassin and serial killer. I mean CLEARLY Alex is the only real choice for Neal.
Alex Hunter is the beautiful, sultry conwoman with a kindred love of art who can do everything Neal can do. All of his cons, all of his tricks, all of his forgeries, she can do them just as well as he can. And she also looks damn fine in a fedora.
Alex knows who Neal really is and she loves and accepts him for it. She’s charmed by him, she’s attracted to him, but she is no fool. She knows when he’s keeping something from her and she always figures out what he’s up to. She’s patient, and she never tries to change who Neal is or alter his path in life.
They spent eight years scouring the globe together and have a rich, deep history together that leaves endless possibilities for what happened in the past, and what could happen in their future. Neal and Alex intrigue me. I love them.
Sara Ellis
Originally posted by hellyeahwhitecollar Although I recognize that Sara really tried to accept all of the sides of Neal Caffrey, and I respect her for trying as hard as she did, this couple was not my favorite. Sarah is certainly a step up from Kate, but from the first second she walked on screen, she annoyed me. Hilarie was clearly imitating Cassidy Freeman’s character, Tess Mercer on Smallville, but she didn’t quite have the goods to play that sassy of a character. Sara is one of those women who mistakes smug for strong. Any of my personal annoyances with her character aside, she did love Neal and she tried be the kind of woman that she could really make a life with him. I enjoyed their last scene on the Empire State Building together, after his “proposal”. I loved when she told him they’d have two kids, Conrad and Connie. I felt for her in that scene. I wish her a great future with passionate love in England.
Rebecca Lowe/Rachel Turner
Originally posted by talesofnorth I thought Rebecca’s storyline was exciting, interesting and an amazing part of the show, but at the end of the day, she’s not even a contender for being Neal’s greatest love. Rebecca’s talents were sadly the ability to do all the things Neal Caffrey would never do, and things he morally opposes.
In 5x13 Diamond Exchange, the scene where Rachel and Neal sit together before she’s arrested makes me tear up every time. Sometimes you do need to know when your time is up. I love how she had to let go, to surrender and to finally stop running. The wave of emotions that washed over her face as the tears gathered in her eyes....so incredible. You could feel how much pain she was in as she finally had to stop.
Neal’s amazing kindness to sit down with her as the feds came running, staying with her for her last few seconds of freedom. And how he shared her last sunset with her. The musical score as the camera panned back over beautiful Manhattan, whew, it gets me every time.
