The Sounds of Silence on 9/11

Sep 11, 2019 12:46

I remember the sounds of silence on 911. I live 9 minutes from Dulles International Airport. I can always hear the airplanes. It's become a comforting white noise. But on 911, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was told to land all flights across the country immediately. Planes were directed to land at nearby airports. Within minutes, all the white noise outside was gone. I stepped outside (perhaps to get the mail, I can't remember) and there was nothing. There were no birds. No children playing, no dogs parking, no cars to be heard. It was a beautiful sunny day, but the silence was eerily scary. I will never forget the silence. ✈️ 🇺🇸
