I clearly remember what I was doing. I had answered my alarm clock - turned it off - went and got my coffee - brought it into the bedroom and sat cross-legged on my bed, watching the morning news, as I did every morning (Pacific Time). Then a special report came on with live video showing what they said was a small plane that hit one of the WTC towers. I sat and watched this thinking it was no big deal - and then saw the other plane come in from right to left and crash into the other tower - and the newscasters were speechless. It was obvious that there was alot more going on. I ran and took a shower and then called Mark, as I knew he was on a route in the Reno area and may not have heard. As I was talking to him, heard that a plane crashed into the Pentagon, and another - site really not known at that time, into the countryside nearby. I was terrified.
I got myself together and headed for work on Hwy 167 - crawling along as usual, listening to KIRO newsradio - and listened as the two towers came down during that time. I just couldn't believe it. How could something like this happen in this country? I would still like an answer to that question. Of course, when I got home that night, there was plenty of video - over and over and over and over again.
Mark's brother worked at the WTC and narrowly escaped - his wife also barely got out - if you remember video of those walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, 2 of them were them - they had to walk all the way home and it took nearly an entire day, and neither of them knew if the other was OK.
I'm still a bit scared - after 5 years.
