Th 7.6.06
The 4th featured a parade down Sunset Blvd. in the Pacfiic Palisades. The mayor headed the procession which was by and large a rag tag of clustered bands and odd floats.
Last night dreamed of Bolinas. Going from one side of town via a German shoemaker and new lady acquaintance the other side of the village. Typically one can cut thru a store to gain access to the rear from the front. Not in this case. She showed me a cubby hole shortcut. A leather goods store next to a restaurant. Somehow that did not seem kosher. I declined taking the short cut since I didn't want to get this chick in trouble with her German owner. The deal here was over water. A faster way to convey it rather than walk all the way around this long shopping plaza of retail buildings. Cut thru and not around.
Water from a natural spring was available thru a dripping spring located between the shops. Some entrepreneurs were bottling it. Save time not to walk around all the time with the goods.
Odd how often Bolinas has been featured in my dreams. Remote from the big city. Rural yet a bohemian colony with a housing shortage and water constrictions. Plenty of intrigue like Peyton Place sexual misconduct. A few bars and a self-righteous politically correct series of taboos and holier-than-thou mind set as everyone drinks and smoked pot it seemed. I would know since I tended bar at Smiley's Schooner Saloon. George was the original bartender. Gabriel. Greg Thomas. And I also did shifts. Lived on tips.
Been in the company of Desmond for a couple days. Enjoyed ourselves for the 4th by joining Scott and his prime time seats at the parade location at Swarthmore and Sunset below a big tree. Shot 100 pictures with my two cameras. Made a picnic lunch later as I dropped by Wholefoods. Incredibly fresh meat there. It is a scene filled with pretty Brentwood people with more money than God looking at the prices for everything which include produce at $4.99 a pound for peaches. Totally cool place for the beautiful young women. Young stars and movie people.
Love being with the Dez. Low key for the most part. Had beach-pool plans as far as obtaining his bathing shorts, just did not make it by the water. That's OK. Next time.
Wednesday planned to do Getty right away but picked up DEz early, 12:30P but he preferred to go home and work on his parade idea with his toy trucks. We did that. THen I read him a few stories and ole Dad just took a nap 'till 3PM. There are days its is just fine to lay aside plans and let Dez do his thing at home if he's in a creative mood. He did a nice drawing for me about snakes.
Altho late in the day, I agreed to take Dez to the Getty at 3:30PM after twice deciding against it. I do that sometimes trying to distinguish my self-centered negativity-projecting traffic problems, not enough time at the gallery or this that the other-
from an objective, spontaneous this is the right thing to do. We arrived. Fund anicwe spot. Did what Dez petty much wanted to do and go to his spots. He made a mask and wanted to trip down t the gardens. Fine. We did. I saw a couple of exhibits with Dez bored and restless. I encouraged Dez to use a new disposable camera I bought him. He barely did. We kinda went off track from time to time. He's five wants to do kids stuff outside or hands on. I like to contemplate the exhibits rather than whisk thru to keep Dez at ease. We like the tram ride.
I took a great DVD from the library about DEgas and his ballet interest. Wonderful.
Extracted "Private Ryan" by literally removing the cover from the DVD machine. The gummy label struck to the machine. Reported this to Montana librarian who hides in the back. I have become fond of this place on Montana. Down 17th is the SMC track as well that allows DEz and I time together in two distinct activities. Looking at library books and playing at the track.
Yeah, I feel we coulda done more for this two day holiday yet what happens is OK. Plans are just a structure and with Dez stuff just follows its water in the stream course of events I figure. As long as I keep my cool and adapt it turns out well as can be expected. Must report a few quirks tho. One. Dez tossed his smoothie on the kitchen floor at breakfast. Two. He made the point of scratching the front of the camera I just bought him when we left the Porter exhibit at the Getty and wanting to break it. THree. After dinner last night, I encouraged him to brush his teeth after dinner. About 7:30PM. I said it would take just a few moments. He wanted me to county to 59". I did by rattling off nukber on the secnd hand of the clock. THen he appeared with tooth paste all over the front of his nice shirt to demonstrate his defiance with my request.
I became upset and told him so. He then tossed the leftovers from my plate to the kitchen floor. At that I gave him a half hour time out. We called it an early night as he just went and fell asleep not to get up again. I let the water out of the tub. I tucked him into his own crib and turned in early myself only awakening once at 1 AM and had a long night's rest.
Week underway again to the Boulevard. Get on with this smog trade. Heard from Scott per DKNY. Rich wants numbers. Still a big mess to clear up at Cape from flood.\I love DEgas.
