A really short Sam/Montego short (fndm)

So I woke up this morning after having a dream about Bette Middler and a t-shirt shop (due in part, I'm sure, to my convo with canadiankracka) with the opening line in my head. Hell of a way to wake up on a Saturday, let me tell ya.

"The least you could do is not call me Jake in bed."

Sam stopped short and said slowly, "This isn't about who lost the remote anymore, is it?"

"You've always been an astute one, Sam."

"I don't--"

Montego sagged down onto the sofa, scrubbing a hand through his hair. "Yes, you do. When you get close and you start to do that breathy whispering thing you do. I know what you're saying and it's not my name."

Sam looked stricken. "…I'm sorry."

"I know."

"I love you."

A sad smile was playing on Montego's face when he looked up at Sam and there wasn't anything like belief in his voice. "I know." He stood to leave, pressing a gentle kiss to Sam's cheek as he passed. "Don't worry about it."

But it was the first time he made himself admit that Sam had one foot out the door since the moment he'd walked in.

In other news, that's a hell of a story about Hamm's gold medal. I'd like to see him give it up, as that would be the stand-up thing to do, but I suppose fault lies with the Koreans for not protesting when they should have. Still. Ouch.

Also, I was watching men's trampoline this morning (some of the sports that made into the Olympics boggle me, but don't you think for a second that I won't watch pretty boys in spandex or hot men out on the beach) and one of the competitors was from Denmark, I think. He worked as a mailman, delivering the mail on his bike every morning to pay the bills so he could train as a tramp gymnast. He bailed out on his routine in the prelims and didn't even make it into the finals and that, for me, is the saddest story I've heard about the games so far. Poor kid (and he was just a kid) was out on his bike every morning, thinking that the medal he'd get at the Olympics would make the drudge work all worth it, and then it wasn't. I feel for him. Say hello to my random hypersensitivity.

And I had something else to say, but I got distracted and forgot. So there.

ETA: This isn't what I was going to say, but it's worth mentioning. I'd love to see some beach volleyball slash, especially femslash. Say hello to my lustfulness.
