Have you met Ferdinand Putter? His Mini-Golf opened today, and he lives in the City Royale. Did you know that once upon a time he was just like you, a Castle Resident? Now he's running the Paradisa Putt Academy. Thankfully he had actual architects to help him out in this venture, as his permanent loss was his ability to do anything in a straight line. He's not like the other townspeople, who do seem a bit - lifeless. He's a brand new Paradisa type of character, and the first of many to come!
Here's how it works! Paradisa, at the moment, has four different types of people. Castle Residents are applied for, have losses, live in the castle, and are played by our members. Ghosts are NPCs, have no corporeal form, no voice, and no real characteristics except a willingness to obey and serve. Townspeople Paradisa Natives are NPCs that are very forgettable. They mill about the City Royale, doing remedial tasks, being easy to forget and in general giving you a creepy vibe. They are easy to kill, since they don't put up a fight, and they don't come back in two weeks if they die. Those are the ones that you all knew about and have been using thus far.
The fourth type of resident, some of you have been using without even knowing it! All of the other patrons, the other people at the bar, the people that start fights, get into fights, or break up fights; now have names. All of the people that pick your pockets, mug you, get mugged, get beat up or knock people down; now all have losses. All of the people that you don't get along with in the city, or actually kind of like; at one time lived in the castle were pulled into the city in the same way you were pulled into the castle.
A lot of times we make posts where our characters are in the City, hanging out, and having a good time. If we relied on just game members most places in the city would be empty. If we relied on the townspeople Paradisa Natives, people would be bored and have nobody to interact with. So we make the place busy, or loud, or full of other people. The owner gives you a deal because there was a finger in your soup, or the bartender winks at you because they thought you were cute. Townspeople Paradisa Natives would never act this way, which means that you've already been playing with the Paradisa City Residents for a while now, without having anything specific to really build off of for them.
Now in line with this, we'd like to give you all a chance to expand the world of Paradisa by creating more of these NPC City Residents. The casual filler person, has always been a given. You dance with them in the clubs, and bump into them in the streets. However, now you have the chance to build up a character that can be used however you want. You can create a villain that has been tormenting the residents, and go off and give them a good talking to. You can create a shady character that has been scamming all the little old ladies at the nursing home, and make sure that he gets what's coming to him.
Basically, we want you to build your own character driven mini-plots using NPCs that you create. Ones that aren't lifeless townspeople, but that are instead real characters that have losses, come back in two weeks when they die, and have actual personalities. We're in the process of developing an OOC Form, which you would fill it out, and give us the details of the NPC you've made. We'll approve them into the game, and add them into the Wiki. This way we have a record of what NPCs have been created, and what's been going on with them.
This form is not needed for all of these residents. This form is only needed for larger characters that will be able to be used for plots, or as staple people in Paradisa. Ferdinand, the owner of the Mini-Golf is one, because castle residents can interact with him on a daily basis, and he has to stay the same for all of the people that meet him. A hot blonde that you save from a mugger will not need the form, unless you plan on making her a serial victim of crimes.
The first one that has been officially created, is Ferdinand Putter. I'll use him for the example of the form, that we're working on.
NPC Name: Ferdinand Putter.
Gender- Age: Male - 48
Permanent Loss: Ability to do anything in a straight line
Species: Human
General Description: Dark hair that's going grey, looks like he used to be in shape, but years in the castle gave him a bit of a gut. Still tall, and has a smile like Harrison Ford. He's very friendly, and being in Paradisa for a while has managed to make him very tolerant of just about anything.
Role within the City: Owner/Manager of Paradisa Putt Academy
Why are they needed? They are the owner/manager of Paradisa Putt Academy, and are needed to provide jobs and entertainment to the Castle residents with his new business venture.
Right now, we'd like to see if anyone has questions, or comments, or concerns. We're going to add more information to the wiki regarding NPCs of this nature, including an FAQ, so please ask whatever questions you think would come up with these characters.
Some basics are:
Yes, they've been taken from their homes. The castle pulled them from their world, the same way that they pulled you. However instead of a room in the castle, they gave them a job and a place to live. (Think of how when you woke up in the Old West you just knew how to do your job, regardless of never doing it before.)
Yes, they can be killed. They'll come back in two weeks, and they are well aware of this since they understand how Paradisa works. This also means that if you wanted, you could say that they wouldn't tell on your character for fear of being killed again, or that they would tell and the word of mouth would eventually make it to the castle.
Yes, they have journals. They don't use them the same way as people in the castle do. They use them to listen, to find out what's going on in the castle, or what might be keeping their businesses slow or booming. They are for information for them, and not for communication.
During World Changes, they are sent along with the rest of the castle, they are just sent to a different 'section' since the castle is aware that throwing a good thousand people into a mess with a group of people that have built up a 'dynamic' as a team would cause more trouble than it would be helpful.
Killing Them Off If you are creating an NPC just to get killed, you don't need to fill out the form, just let a mod know that you're killing a City Resident instead of a Native of Paradisa. If you're planning on going back to kill them every two weeks, well then we'd need a form filled out.
