Well, York might not necessarily have needed it, but Wash was in a different state. So far, Tex hadn't decided to maim him. Instead, he had a nice Meta thrashing that would be nice to relax after.

He'd taken the time to make sure that his arm was stabilized and that removing armor wouldn't undo Kat's work in setting it properly. Though there were still bruising and marks from what happened with the Meta that were visible as he moved to join York. "Not a bad idea to come here... And good to know you're still alive."

York scooted over a bit to give Wash some room (not that there wasn't plenty, but it was the polite thing to do).

"Hey. Could've been worse." As it is, he did have a black eye and a missing tooth, but at least all his bones were in place. Of course, Tex had walked out on him--and he still wasn't sure she was coming back. But that was neither here nor there.

"I forget if you've been out here before?"

Washington chuckled at that. "You'll heal. I don't know that it's going to be that easy for me once she gets around to it. At least she hasn't done it while I'm still injured. Well, not so far."

He shook his head. "No. It's definitely worth visiting though."

York leaned back a little, trying not to focus so much on Wash's broken arm. "Well, I didn't manage to calm her down any. Sorry." He probably should have tried a little harder, really, but Tex was--not like other girls. "At least you got the damn bone set, though. If you'd left it and it healed badly, you'd be a goddamn idiot."

He did grin a little, though, as a red leaf floated down picturesquely to land in the water. "First time I came here, I, uh, well. It was when I got turned into a girl on a loss."

Washington sighed. Can't win, really. That's his luck. "Figured as much, York. And if I hadn't? Kat would have hunted me down. She reset it properly. Helped replace the broken armor plating too."

He smirked. "Interesting luck you have with losses."

"Good for her." Which reminded him. "...Does that mean you two are talking again, or was it one of those where you just glared at each other all day?" Because he could totally imagine Kat just ordering him around and neither of them actually talking to each other about their problems.

And he rolled his eyes. "Tell me about it. But hey! Not every day I can legit sneak into the girls' room."

Washington sighed. "We're talking. Still don't know how to handle her..."

He paused. "At least you haven't been nearly eaten by a cat, York."

He nodded. "Better than not talking." He didn't really see how she was hard to handle, though, unless you were expecting something like--"Just try to remember she has no idea what normal social interaction is, and it'll help a lot." It had helped him with Delta--and Tex--and most of the friends he'd made here, come to think of it. But then, York was pretty chill about people in general.

"And at least you haven't been chewed on by a T-rex." He pointed to a few faded scars that did, in fact, look like giant tooth puncture wounds.

Washington shook his head before replying quietly, "York, she thought I abandoned her when she needed me when I got drunk the first night the castle fucked with our rooms. And that she deserved it. How the fuck do I handle that?"

The scars got a pause. "True."

York grimaced. "You don't. Well. Not directly. You make her go in for a goddamn psych eval. Unlike you, she probably doesn't have an overriding dislike of shrinks. And if you ask me, she needs one." And of course Wash wouldn't hurt form one, but York wasn't going to push it. "Hell, if you want, I'll even give her a referral."

"She said she's overdue for one." Wash could help a sigh at that. "Maybe it'd have been easier to stay celibate. So much more complicated like this."

"But she still hasn't done anything about it, has she?" He crossed his arms and started tapping fingers against a bicep. "I'll talk to her, see if I can make her see sense."

He just laughed at the second comment, though, dragging a little water through his hair. "Hey, I meant what I said about no strings attached. Except for the string where Tex gives me a black eye, anyway."

"Would she tell me if she did? I'm not her keeper."

Washington shrugged at that. "Kat said the same thing about strings. Look at us.

"No, but she'd probably be a little more likely to actually talk things out instead of storming out." Because he'd bet that's what had happened.

He nodded, though, because somehow that didn't surprise him at all. "How much of it's from you and how much of it's from her, really?"

"Last time we talked, she didn't storm out. Before that? She grabbing me by the arm hard enough to damage plating and threw me out."

Washington sighed, looking away. "I don't know. I don't think it's all me if she's reacting to me saying no and getting drunk like that."

York winced a little at that. At both, really.

"Starting with the second, you were both emotionally compromised, okay? I saw it. I was there. But you had an idea of what she went through, and she probably assumed you were fine. Obviously you weren't, but she probably wasn't thinking of that at all."

He sank down into the water a little to try and get rid of the building tension.

"It's perspective."
