Though Five remembered the last Tanabata festival he'd been involved in his first summer at Paradisa all too well - and not exactly with the fondest of memories - he had decided that it might as well be high time to give it another try. He'd heard the origins of this particular tree, and figured that its nature might be balm enough to keep away any of the castle's more meddlesome influences.

Sitting down beneath the tree, he rifled through his pockets until he found both pen and paper, and began to write. If most residents tried to read over his shoulder, however, they'd have poor luck - as the Time Lord was writing out his wish in Gallifreyan.

Kasanoda spotted the Doctor, and was fairly surprised anyone showed up. He actually looked over with interest, but remembered his face, and quickly looked away again, embarrassed.

"What's the matter?" Five glanced up, concerned. "I don't bite, I promise you."

The embarrassment continued to pile up. A year of being here, and Kasanoda was still awful at being social. "I-I'm fine! Yeah."

After hundreds of years, the Doctor knew an introvert when he saw one, as well as the best way to handle them: to act as though you didn't notice, and treat them perfectly normally. He glanced up at the tree. "I do hope you made a nice wish for yourself. We could use something pleasant, after all we've been through lately."

He hesitated, still a little shy. But being shy was terribly unmanly. He cleared his throat, trying to act casually and not like the socially inept dork he was. "I made it as specific as possible so that this place can't mess it up."

"A very wise decision. I'm doing the same, myself. " He smiled. "I'm the Doctor, by the way. I don't believe we've had the pleasure of meeting. "

He was about to agree, but the name immediately stuck out. "The Doctor?" It wasn't that the name was strange - even though it was - but that it was the second time someone had introduced themselves with the exact same title.

"Yes, that's me. The Doctor. Well. One of them. There're two of me, here. I don't suppose you've met the other? About yea high -" he gestures, "floppy hair, tweed jacket, snappy bow tie?"

Chuck didn't ask permission - she simply took a seat next to him, smoothing out her hands, paper, and pen in her lap as she tossed him a sideways glance in greeting.

"Wishing for something spectacular?"

"Oh, yes. That's rather the point, isn't it?" He smiled, glad that no one could read just how grim his wish really was, in contrast to his pleasant expression.

"How have you been, mm?"

Her own paper was blank; she still hadn't decided what, exactly, to write down.

"Few complaints. I've actually been having a good time of things, here."

"Pirates and all, eh? Glad to hear it. … I don't suppose you've discovered the pie shop in town?"
