Fred was worried about Kaylee.
They were only just getting to know each other, and she would hardly call them close. But there was enough there to anticipate she might not be doing all that well. It wasn't even particularly hard math. Not after the Castle's most recent attempt to twist them all up. It seemed to her that Kaylee -- and Wesley -- might've been more twisted up than most.
There was very little she could do about that now. Logically Fred knew that. But she could offer to meet Kaylee at Caritas. And she could be there to listen. Which is what she was now prepared to do, propped up on one of the stools and waiting for her to arrive.
Even without Lorne's generous offer to treat pretty much the entire population of Paradisa, it would have been Fred's choice. A bottle of tequila, two shot glasses and a shaker of salt sat there too, contentedly waiting with her. It was a nod to home, and the collision of cultures that made up Texas.
Fred twisted the bottle, watching the way the light was caught and refracted by the liquid as she waited.
