Lois had always hated funerals, and even though this was technically a 'memorial service', it was close enough to set off all those internal alarms that Lois had such a hard time with. She'd like to think she'd gotten better at it though, learned to face it, at least. Carter, Jonathan Kent... She'd shown up, and bit back the tears, and given them the respect they deserved. She didn't want to hide from her grief in their eyes, at least.

But this...

She had such a hard time feeling like she belonged here in any way. Sam was a friend, she would definitely admit that, but not a close friend, and as such, the fact that she had been the one who Isis had used to kill him continued to simply haunt Lois' every thought throughout the ceremony.

She couldn't really talk, couldn't do much but hold the glass up when cued and down it, wishing the liquid would just be strong enough to burn away the huge lump rising in her throat.

For once, she didn't want anyone to talk to her. She just wanted the earth to open up and bury her, which she realized was an especially morbid thought in a graveyard.

She shivered, though she didn't think it was really from the cold.

Jo was relieved that Lois had come. She honestly felt like she had overstepped slightly during their earlier talk. It wasn't as if she wanted to just ramble all over the girl, but it seemed that once she got started and had her mind made up -- there wasn't a way to dissuade her.

She moved over toward Lois, unsure of what else to say, "I think for once I might be outta words."
