This was not Gotham City. That much, Simon discovered soon enough. While he had yet to explore the entirety of the city, he was certain there was not a large castle inside the city. Besides that, the skyline looked completely unfamiliar to him. There were no blimps...and there was a certain, faint, unfamiliar magic lingering about the castle. This was not Gotham, at least not his. He wasn't sure what had happened to bring him here in the first place. He'd been climbing out from the catacombs under the burned down church, and suddenly appeared somewhere else. He couldn't even find the steps to go back down again.
I hope Kitty's okay...
With any luck, Tom or Rachel would look for him soon enough, and find out he was missing. Rachel would probably take care of Kitty for him. Hopefully. In the meantime, he had problems of his own. Not least among them was how blissfully unaware he was of just how much he resembled a slasher movie villain in his current wardrobe. With a patchwork mask and wig over his face, a long, worn, dark gray coat over a red and black striped shirt (fortunately, no metal claws were affixed to either of his gloved hands) covering his upper body, and a pair of faded black jeans that had seen better days, he was essentially only one big knife away from sending teenagers screaming into the forest. Figuratively speaking of course, and it wasn't as if Simon was aware of the potential problem that could arise from his wardrobe, he'd never seen a slasher movie...or any movie, for that matter.
He was careful to keep hidden, sticking to the shadows and moving silently where he could; pausing and moving with the wind when he couldn't, using the rustling of the leaves to mask his footsteps. He was eventually close enough to the castle that he was able to leap to a window on the first floor, and began to climb. The bricks didn't appear to be anything like he ones used in the old church he used to call home, they were too brightly colored, even at night...and the rest of the architecture was entirely too different from the burned down church, and as far as Simon knew that was the oldest building in Gotham. That fact rang in his head for a second time as he continued to climb, crawling up one window before leaping to another, or taking advantage of a few handholds to gain an extra few feet.
This is not Gotham. This is not home...
Simon continued to climb, occasionally pausing and attempting to peer through a window to get some idea of the castle's interior, only to find that some of the windows didn't actually show the inside of the castle, just stone. Eventually he reached the top of the castle, and was able to better survey the surrounding area...which, naturally, was completely unfamiliar to him. There was a lit up city somewhere below the castle, but there didn't appear to be anything else in the immediate area. He decided to walk to the other end of the rooftop and see if anything was visible in that direction, only to discover there was just a large balcony area and little more, besides a grassy field visible in the distance with a stage on it, and the forest he'd noticed when he first arrived. Though, he also saw something else, something on the roof. It was a simple black book, and how on earth it had managed to find its way onto the rooftop was a mystery. It didn't like like it was thrown, it was laying flat and neatly on the sloping roof as if it had been placed there. Upon opening the book, he immediately noticed something suspicious: his name was on the first page. His name; it didn't simply say "Simon," but "Simon Dark."
"...what is this place...?" he asked aloud, unknowingly broadcasting that very question to anyone who might have had their own journals open at the time. And the occasional gust of wind would certainly inform anyone listening in that the latest arrival was still outside the castle somewhere...
