What: CAMPING SHENANIGANS.
When: Nov 3, 2010 - the first day.
Where: Just outside the castle on their way to the deadzone border.

All things considered, for how delayed things had been and how overall stressful the castle had decided to make their last few days with the freaky shrines and the freakier makeup, Claire was still feeling optimistic when morning came around and it was time to leave on their trip, which, really, was a miracle in itself -- Claire and optimism in the past few months hadn't gone well, but this was a new Claire. A reinvented Claire who was all about fresh starts and good outcomes.
That, and if she didn't have a bright outlook about this trip, she was pretty sure no one would. Between Tim who was probably feeling depressed at being dragged along for Akihiko's sake, and Akihiko who she still fully and completely believed was only there to babysit, it was hard to keep from letting her worry over the potential negative feelings drag her down, and instead, she decided it was better to ignore the possibility completely and focus entirely on just moving forward.
They'd just have to come to terms with the idea the further they got from the castle, if Claire was right about their disapproval.
The horse, as it had turned out, had been their best bet for extra supply carrying, and they'd loaded it up with about as much as it seemed safe to have it carry, but most of them still had to carry their own packs. The shorter girls, which were in large supply, looked especially silly with them.
