Sasuke was currently walking along the castle's second floor hallway which led to his room as he tried to figure out his next course of action. He'd been regularly going about his routine since he'd arrived in the castle itself, including going back through the journal to make sense of what he'd been up to in this place previously, exploring, and even training. In all honestly, for the past several days here he had only ventured towards his assigned room a handful of times, since he was doing other things throughout the day itself ( ... )

Sakura interpreted his glance as an invitation. She didn't need one, not really, but it was a kind of acknowledgement. Had she been able to speak, she might have taken no more than a handful of steps forward, calling his name, talking to him, asking him to turn around and face her.

As it was, she walked over to him, swallowing that spike of adrenaline that remembered what she'd been trying to do the last time she'd approached Sasuke, and how well that had ended -- or almost ended. He hadn't quite become the self he was headed toward now, and Ino's words lurked in the back of Sakura's mind, explaining the "truth" of some things, and how Sasuke had the ability to turn himself around.

She wished Naruto was here.

As she approached, she gave him a little wave of her fingers, a perfunctory greeting in the face of the kind she'd usually give, back home. There was a choice to make, and in that moment before she reached his side, Sakura wondered if she'd make one of the better ones. She couldn't quite smile at first, thinking, How hard ( ... )

It was true enough that Sasuke was acknowledging her right then, but his expression still held no expression as she still looked in her direction ( ... )

Very funny. If he'd been paying attention to the journal, she'd even be tempted to slap him for that. (Sakura suspected, however, that he wasn't trying to make a mockery of what she'd lost. His attitude wasn't quite right for it.)

There was so much she'd love to say, so much she'd love to ask, but to do that, she'd need him to have the patience to read her questions as she wrote them. Her journal was the most convenient way, but -- and here, she held up a hand to Sasuke, as if asking him to stop -- she had other things on hand for writing with.

Pulling out a small spiral-bound notepad, along with a pencil, she wrote a quick question.

What are you planning to do?For all the things she might ask, it was the most direct. Turning the pad to face him, she arched her eyebrows up in mute question, her eyes opening wider as if trying to absorb any detail of his expression in these moments. She pursed her lips, reminding herself not to attempt to speak ( ... )
