Three. And Yazoo was already there waiting for her when she lifted her head. Isn't that sweet of him? He knew from the very start that it was only a question of time before she came looking for him -- orders or not. He had a superior intellect on his side. It was just one of many gifts Mother had bestowed upon him.

He stood half hidden by the shadows of a tree but not so hidden that Elena wouldn't see the familiar cock of his head. The characteristic action sent his long silver hair cascading over his shoulder. He studied her for a moment before chuckling in that smooth, mocking way of his. The leather of his bodysuit creaked when he stepped forward. He wondered just how close he could get to her before she reacted. He either didn't notice the gun in her hand or didn't acknowledge it.

"You've healed up nicely." He sounded disappointed to see her in one piece. But the cruel and mocking side of him soon returned. "Do you have scars? I bet you do." Yazoo lifted his gloved hand as if to check for himself.

Elena's eyes narrowed on his sickeningly familiar form. How ironic that he stepped from the shadows, just like a true nightmare. She tried to keep her expression blank, her breathing even as he approached. The steps that she wanted to take in retreat were denied. She was standing her ground, no matter how close he got.

But that didn't mean she was going to let him touch her. No way in hell.

She didn't even think about it. It was pure instinct that made her lift her weapon and take aim. "How about I give you a scar this time." Elena's voice had far more anger in it than she wanted. But no matter how hard she tried or how much she denied it, the fact remained that this -was- personal. He and his brothers tortured her. It wasn't something easily forgotten. And it was never forgiven. "Right between your eyes!" Her finger tightened on the trigger, but didn't pull it just yet.

That she didn't pull the trigger right away spoke volumes. Was she still caught up in her guilt for disobey her commands? Or was it fear? She must know that pulling the trigger was likely to end in something not so pleasant for her.

The glimmer in his eyes made them all the more eerie and predatory. "What? And ruin this beautiful face?" His voice dripped with honey even when his hands dripped with blood. Yazoo tilted his head at her before he smirked and spun away. He circled Elena while looking down his delicate nose at her. "Is the man really not here?" What a disappointment. "Tch." He came to a stop right back in the direct path of Elena's gun. Yazoo chuckled and just kept his eyes on her.

Elena cursed under her breath. Why didn't she pull the trigger. She should've pulled the trigger. The gun lowered while she turned her head, watching him over one shoulder and then the other as he circled around her. It lifted again when Yazoo stopped in front of her. It was like he was daring her.

Just pull the trigger.

"Sorry to disappoint you." She muttered. "But it's just me. And as for your beautiful face?" Her stomach practically heaved with those last two words. "I want to do more than just scar it. I want to obliterate it. I don't want to have to worry about ever seeing it again." Elena's tone dripped with something too...venom. "For every drop of my blood that you spilled? I want three of yours." Adrenaline rushed through her now, chasing what remained of her fear away. "Pay up!"

This time? She pulled the trigger.

Maybe she wouldn't be so boring after all. The change in her demeanor was both amusing and a little surprising. Yazoo pulled away as the bullet went flying through the silver strands of his hair. The bottom of his long black coat spiraled around him as he spun around. Velvet Nightmare was drawn in one fluid motion before he stopped and aimed where she'd just been standing. Yazoo tilted his head forward to stare along the barrel of his gunblade.

"A single drop of Mother's blood is more precious than your entire body!" And that's what flows through Yazoo's veins. Just thinking that she would believe a drop of hers should be repaid with the drops of Mother's enrages him. He will have no hesitation about pulling the trigger but he won't be shooting to kill. Yazoo laughed past her insults. "You will be the first I capture but the last I kill!" That would amuse him.

Elena's breath caught in her throat when her first shot did little more then sever a few strands of his hair. She tried to focus, pulling the trigger again and again. She was at close range, how could she keep missing?!

He's too fast!

An ominous click told her when she was out of ammo. She ran for the nearest cover, which just happened to be the very tree that shaded Yazoo earlier. Elena slid around to the other side of it, putting it between her and him. She pressed her back against it while she ejected the empty clip and searched inside her jacket for another one. She could hear the razor thin anger in his voice. And suicidal or not...yeah, that amused her too.

"Your mother was just a head in a box!"

You expect Elena to know when to shut up? Not likely.

Velvet Nightmare followed her as she ran but he didn't shoot. It was always more fun to toy with the peons. But it's all fun and games until someone insults Mother.

W-what did she just say?! Yazoo's pale lips parted in a grimace. He grit his teeth and started blasting away chunks of the tree. He wasn't thinking about his threat to keep her alive while he took his time killing everyone else now. "How dare you speak about Mother that way!" Yazoo will have to teach her some respect.

It gave Elena a little thrill that her words about "mother" could get under his skin. If she can't hit him with anything else, at least she can get him with words. A startled cry escaped her when he started shooting the tree apart though. She sank down, arms lifting to protect her head from pieces of flying bark.

She couldn't take a shot right now, that much was obvious. Elena slipped a single grenade out of her jacket, pulling the pin with her teeth before lobbing it back in his direction. She wasn't naive enough to think that she'd actually succeed in blowing him to smithereens, but maybe it would at least buy her some cover. She counted down before propelling herself forward, deeper into the woods.

Now what did Mother ever do to her. If Loz were here he'd be the first to call Elena a big meanie. He stopped firing when the grenade was tossed in his direction. He was already flipping back before it hit the ground and exploded. It did buy her time and distance. However, briefly.

Yazoo caught sight of her as she ran deeper into the forest. He laughed softly and lowered Velvet Nightmare before stepping rapidly in that direction. There was no need to be hasty just yet. He leapt easily from the ground to a low branch so he could keep his eyes on the Turk. "Do you really think you can run from me?" She never ceases to amaze him -- amaze being a very generous word. Yazoo flipped his hair back over his shoulder before leaping down and after her.

Elena weaved between the trees as she heard the sound of the grenade going off behind her. She'd hoped for one good shot...one chance at vindication. Obviously today wasn't her day for that. The time that the grenade bought her was precious little, and she was hearing that mocking voice much sooner than she expected. She slid down a bank, her hand against the ground as she looked up towards the sound of Yazoo's voice. She spotted him there, perched on the branch like some giant bird of prey. A crow...or some other species that fed on death.

Elena started running once she reached level ground again. At least he wasn't shooting. Did he even know how ridiculous his question was? Even she knew she couldn't run from him, not for long. He moved so silently that unless she looked directly at him, Elena couldn't tell how close he was. The only thing she knew for sure was that he was chasing her ( ... )

It was so easy to be a predator when she moved like prey. Yazoo would let her get almost completely out of his sight before chuckling and resuming the chase. It was fun. He was having fun even with no brothers there.

He would enjoy it more if it weren't for the growing feeling that something wasn't right. His prey didn't seem to be moving completely out of fear. It was almost as if-- If he didn't know better he'd think--

Yazoo wasn't even close to being tired when she took refuge behind another tree. His pale skin and hair complimented movements that were almost ghostlike in their grace. He waited at first and tried not to laugh at the sound of her labored breathing. She should be happy that she's still breathing at all. Then in a sudden motion he reached around to try and grab and pull Elena close. "Boo." How appropriate.

Elena's instincts told her to recoil, to try and pull away from his grasp. But she had to fight against that. This is what she'd expected, even counted on. She let him take her arm and jerk her closer while doing her best to conceal what she'd pulled from her jacket.

"I'm not sure how much you remember..." She murmured, her brown eyes narrowing on that alabaster face. "But just for the record, you died and I didn't." Elena's index finger lifted and pulled the pin from the grenade. Her free hand was actually reaching for him now, fingers curling in black leather and trying to tug him as close as possible to cocoon the explosive between them. "Even with this? I'm still one up on you."

She was torn. On the one hand, she hoped being blown up was as painless as possible. On the other hand...she'd really like for him to feel it.

Yazoo was certainly taken aback when Elena reached for him and pulled him closer. Certainly that had never happened before. When he looked down at her hand he understood why. She intended to blow the both of them up together. If he were capable he'd think it morbidly romantic. Forgive him for calling it a date.

"Tch." Yazoo made a disgusted sound. He had absolutely no intentions of being blown apart and especially not with her. In fact the more she gripped him and the closer she pulled him the more annoyed Yazoo became. He picked her up effortlessly off the ground and tossed her away as easily as any rag doll. And she could take her grenade with her.

Maybe that was enough fun for one day. Yazoo had made his point. But Elena had made hers too. Things just might get interesting from here on out. Why be hasty? Yazoo had plenty of time to kill. Pun intended? You decide. His laughter echoed through the woods even once he was out of sight.

Elena's eyes widened at how easily he tossed her away. She tried to hold onto him with a tightened grip, but in the end the remnant was just too strong. She went flying through the air, coming to a stop only when she crashed into another tree. Gravity reclaimed her then and pulled her back down to the ground.

The Turk groaned and turned her head to the side, only to spot the grenade still in her hand. She couldn't have much time left, so she opened her hand to let it roll away and turned her face from what seemed like the inevitable blast.

Time passsed. Heartbeats became seconds, and seconds eventually stretched into minutes. Elena finally dared to look at the unresponsive grenade. She ignored the aches and pains of her body to push herself into a sitting position and reached out hesitantly for the grenade. Closer inspection explained everything.

A dud? A dud. Only Elena could've chosen a dud. She sighed heavily and wiped a hand down over her face. Elena fell back against the forest floor, spent physically and ( ... )
