Like many of history's greatest intellects, Gai's mind could never fully turn off.
Unlike many of history's greatest intellects, Gai...well, was not an intellect. Instead of compulsive theorizing raiding his mind at any corner, it was that he never discerned what thoughts had to go and which ones got to stay up there. He was constantly preoccupied with thinking of everything from how the universe was formed, to what to eat later on that day, to picturing monkeys in hats or questioning whether or not his rival wore boxers or briefs.

Concocting ways to improve himself with hard work was his favourite pasttime, and while he had many elaborate methods of doing so, absolutely none involved sitting frozen for about five days and doing absolutely nothing with his body, letting it sit and rot in atrophy. When it was all over, he felt so counterproductive that he needed to be up and about doing things, busying himself as much as he could.

His restlessness at this place was getting worse. He wasn't one to complain, as he did enjoy the company of the residents and the exciting events that always seemed to occur. And okay, so maybe he was getting a bit attached to Gaara. He really wasn't sure why he'd get that odd anxiety once he was away from him, but the events in Gaara's room beforehand had not helped one bit. He was quite glad Gaara had his siblings here to assuage him from doing anything like that again (he had hoped).

He didn't have much planned to discuss. He wasn't sure if he wanted to bring up what had happened as he was not certain if it would put Gaara in an awkward position or not. Not that he minded putting him in awkward positions in the first place, but this was a sensitive subject. At the same time, he didn't want to ignore it. He decided that he'd just wing it, and let his gut guide him. That was really an eight-pack, but I meant gut as in instinct/intuition.

And he reallyREALLY wanted to give Gaara a jumpsuit, now. He did remember the Kazekage making it clear that he had no intention of ever wearing one, and even saying that Gai looked ridiculous in it. Gai would not ever want to impose such a thing on someone, though it was a tool for success, he believed, and he could not fight the burning desire to see Gaara in the outfit. For now, he'd let it sit and stew. Yes, at this very moment he had something more important to attend to.

With the extension of his long, muscled leg, he kicked open the door in a swift motion, winking and smiling at Gaara as he stood in the threshold.

In his hands were two sake glasses. With (cow)tongues floating in them and hanging off the side of the cups, as if they were lemons. His jumpsuit had a giant heart-shaped cut in the fabric covering his entire chest, and tied to his wrist were numerous "Missing You" balloons. Gai had to visit the village earlier for balloons since Gaara's birthday had been approaching quickly.

"Why, hello." His teeth sparkled youthfully as he leaned against the doorframe. "I hope you can help me. I got lost on my way to Sunagure, and I must have ended up in the Hidden Village of Angels." Okay, so he wasn't sure why he used a pick-up line right there. Oh wait, he was. He sipped a bit of sake before coming here. Well, he'd cover that up, somehow.

gaara, maito gai
